Mrs. Pauline Haas of St. Annes Christian Centre Ituna, Saskatchewan, formerly of Goodeve, Sask. and beloved wife of the late  Anton Haas passed away on  Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the  Regina General Hospital at the age of 100 years.  It was  a beautiful sunny morning, almost as if the angels were preparing Heaven for their long awaited friend.  She will be greeted there by her parents, and her siblings: Mary, Mike, Kay, Anton, Thomas, Frank, Walter and Barney; her husband Anton.  She will be remembered and missed by her sister Sophie (John) Jankoski and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Pauline was born in the Hubbard district of Saskatchewan on February 1, 1906  the third of ten children born to Valentine and Anastasia (nee Yaremicki) Rokosh  Polish pioneers to this country.  In 1927 she met and then married Anton Haas.  They moved to Ontario where they both worked but decided there was no place like home and moved back to Saskatchewan.  It was then that they lived in Goodeve where they operated an I.H.C. Dealership.  In 1929 they bought a small farm in the Tulleymet area.  Anton and Polly  loved to dance and they could be seen at dances at the Spondon, Tullymet and Saint Joseph's schools.  They both curled and were considered great curlers.  Polly curled well into her 70's.  Her prowess in curling was surpassed by her green thumb. On the farm, her yard was covered with roses and pansies and cheery flowers and her home was filled with violets.  In 1965 they retired and moved into Ituna where they continued to curl,  fish and play cards.  If you wanted a good game of three spot you could always find a game at "the Haas".  In March 1995 Anton passed away; but Polly continued on at home playing cards and being everybody's "Auntie Polly"   It was just four months ago that over 100 friends and family  joined Polly to celebrate her 100th. Birthday.  She was so proud of her achievement and wanted to share it with her friends.  Last but not least Polly was a passionate Blue Jays fan, to the end she never missed a game.  Prayer service was held on Thursday evening, June 8, 2006 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Ituna, Saskatchewan with Father J. Pat Murphy presiding.  Paulette Van der Helm was the organist leading the parish choir in the Hymns: "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and O' God Our Help In Ages Past".   The reflections of Pauline's life were given by Janet Colarusso.  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday morning, June 9, 2006 from St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church with  Rev. Father J. Pat Murphy as Celebrant.   Beverly Romanyk, Sophie Jankoski, Vicky Klimczak and Sophie Leontowich placed the Pall on the Casket.  The Catholic Women's League formed an Honour Guard; with Bailey Braden, MacKenzie Moleski and Kayla Renkas serving as Altar Servers.  Destiny Rokosh was the Cross bearer.  Paulette Van Der Helm was the organist leading the choir and congregation in the Hymns: "Be Not Afraid" "The Strife Is O'er", "Like a Shepherd", "May Flights of Angels"  and "How Great Thou Art" .  The intercessions and Epistle  were read by Linda Heibert and Laura Bessette.  The interment followed in the Ituna Roman Catholic Cemetery with Bryan Jankoski, Allan and Richard Rokosh, Donald Leontowich, Shirley Tataryn and Glen Bessette serving as Casket Bearers.
