Mr. Carl Malinowski, formerly of Theodore, husband of the late Maggie Malinowski passed away on Monday, April 3rd at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina at the age of 91 years.
Carl Malinowski was born on the Malinowski homestead on October 20, 1914, the thirteenth of seventeen children. He attended Poplar Leaf School and worked with his Dad on the farm until 1939 when he purchased his first quarter of land. In 1941 Carl spent three months in Toronto working, but returned in plenty of time for spring seeding. On July 17, 1943 he married Maggie Pawliw. This union was blessed with three children, Emil, Gail and Joanne. Carl and Maggie retired from the farm in 1981. Carl’s farming career spanned six decades and his love for farming continued well into his retirement. Carl was known to be up before sunrise on most occasions. He loved to play cards with his friends and family, especially “Troika”. Throughout his life Carl instilled in his children and grandchildren an appreciation for an honest day’s work.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Gail Blommaert (Gordon) of Regina and Joanne Penteluk (Gregg) of Grande Prairie, AB; daughter-in-law Joan Malinowski of Kelowna, BC; grandchildren, Steven Yackel (and his son Taylor) of Moose Jaw, Karl Yackel (Colleen O’Hearn) of Edmonton, AB, Shane Blommaert of Regina, Brett Blommaert of Estevan, Rocky Malinowski (Andrea) of Kelowna, BC (their children Rocky, Cody and Mattia). Also several in laws, nieces and nephews.
Carl was predeceased by his wife Maggie in 2001 and his son Emil in 1978.
“Dad was the last surviving member of his family of seventeen”.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church in Yorkton on Friday, April 7th with Rev. Father Basil Chomos as the Celebrant. The crossbearer was Michael Malinowski and the altar servers were Ernie Bobowski and Tom Pasloski. The organist, Rita Hilbig led members of the funeral choir in the singing of the hymns, “Gather Us In”, “Here I Am Lord”, “Be Not Afraid”, “Song of The Angels” and “For The Beauty of The Earth”. The readers were Gail Blommaert and Joanne Penteluk. The interment took place at St. Theodore R.C. Cemetery, north of Theodore with Steven Yackel, Karl Yackel, Shane Blommaert, Brett Blommaert Emil Biblow and Melvin Hnidey as the casket bearers.
Funeral arrangements were in care of Bailey’s Funeral Home.
