Leona Milo

MILO - The family of Leona Milo of Ituna, beloved wife of the late Bernie Milo, sadly announce her passing on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Leona Milo was born to Tillie (Elash) and Joseph Petrowsky on April 11, 1929, in the Otthon District of Saskatchewan and began her education at Jaroslaw school. The family moved to the Hard Rock area near Hubbard, where they farmed and Leona attended Hard Rock school.  There she met the love of her life, Bernie Milo. They married on September 7, 1947, farmed and lived on the Milo homestead.  They then purchased a quarter section across the road and lived there until the early 1960s, when they purchased a half section of land near Ituna, and built a new home. They were blessed with five children, Diana, Theodore (Ted), Mervin, Jennifer and Eugene. Leona and Bernie farmed throughout the years they lived near Ituna and moved to Regina in the fall of 1967. There Leona worked at Sears mail order warehouse, as a waitress at the King’s Hotel and as a store clerk and later Manager of the Saan Store. Leona and Bernie moved back to Ituna in 1978, where they lived until their passing. Community involvement was very important to Leona. She volunteered extensively at St. Stanislaus Parish, the Ituna Social Club, Hospital Auxiliary, CWL, and many other town functions. Much of her time was spent caring for grandchildren. She enjoyed family visits, travelling, fishing and sewing making numerous patchwork quilts. Gardening was her passion, which she was fortunate to be able to continue until she was 95 years of age.   She always was up for a visit, reminiscing and loved jokes. She was a great cook; her scuffles were renown and she made delicious tweedies. Leona passed away peaceful with family at her side at the Ituna Pioneer Lodge at the age of 96 years, just 24 days short of her 97th birthday. She was predeceased by: parents, Joseph and Tillie; husband, Bernie; son, Eugene; sons-in-law, Ronald Lee and Randy Smith; brothers John, Carl, Walter, Mike, and Frank; sisters, Annie Sass and Katie Dmyterko, and Mary and Elizabeth in infancy; and in-laws, Mike Sass, Metro Dmyterko, Jean Petrowski, Annie Petrowsky and Nick Holowatuik. She is survived by and leaves to mourn her passing: her children, Diana Lee, Theodore (Joy) Milo, Mervin (Karen) Milo and Jennifer Smith; 11 grandchildren and spouses; 19 great-children and spouses; and 2 great-great grand-children; sister, Alice Holowatuik; several sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Leona’s strong faith helped her through many trials and tribulations in her life.  This faith and her integrity are an inspiration to all. Rest in peace, Mom. We will miss you.
