Obituary of Orest Tanchyk
Orest Tanchyk was peacefully called to his heavenly home at the age of 86 on January 24, 2025, leaving our world a little dimmer without the charm and sparkling blue eyes of our BEST guy.
Orest will be greatly missed by his wife Deanna and their four daughters, Bernice (Paul) Lyons of Saskatoon, Bertha (Brent) Delgaty of Regina, Brenda (Dale) Wasden of Spiritwood and Paula (Kevin) Tetzlaff of Regina. Nine grandchildren, Cameron, Carly (Nicholas), Mitchell (Dana), Shawn (Jarynn), Gillian (Conor), Julia (Walker), Jordan, Brydon and Macy. Two great grandchildren Hudson & Nora. His sisters Martha Didychuk and Lydia (Peter) Prescott. His brother-in-law Steve, sisters-in-law Debbie (Ivan), Cheryl (Myron), Doreen (Rodney) and Margaret (Len) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Orest is predeceased by his parents Paul and Anne Tanchyk, his brothers Russell, Marco and Martin, his father-in-law Peter Sawchuk, mother-in-law Lena Sawchuk, sister-in-law Jeanette Sawchuk and niece Jocelyn Morash.
Orest was born to Paul and Anne Tanchyk December 21, 1938 on the farm near Rorkton, MB. He was one of six children. He had a love for baseball and would walk many miles a summer to be able to play. After graduating high school he went to work in northern Manitoba.
Orest met the love of his life Deanna in The Pas, MB. in February of 1961 and they married in July of 1963. While living in Thompson he worked at the nickel mine. It was in Thompson where they welcomed their first two daughters Bernice and Bertha.
They moved out to the Wroxton/Churchbridge area and started their farm in 1970 where they lived for 37 years. Their family was complete when Brenda and Paula were born. Orest worked at the potash mine in Esterhazy for 27 years, however his true passion was farming with his wife and daughters by his side. In 2007 Orest and Deanna moved into Yorkton where they resided until his passing.
Orest had many friends and family who he loved playing cards with as well as horseshoes and bowling. He had a love for dancing, fishing, berry picking, camping and travel. Out of all their travels Ukraine, South Africa and Mexico were his favorites. When Orest wasn’t outside or playing cards you could find him on the couch watching sports or tinkering in the garage. He was a man of strong values, great faith, incredible work ethic, integrity, and he was respected by everyone.
May his infectious laugh light up Heaven as it did on earth.
