Obituary of Rolande Beaulieu
Rolande Beaulieu (née Lemieux, formerly Salzl), 94
September 5, 1930 – January 30, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rolande Beaulieu on January 30, 2025, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, Saskatchewan. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of her community, Rolande will always be remembered for her unwavering loyalty to family, her kindness, and her willingness to help those in need.
Born on September 5, 1930, in Paradise Hill, SK, Rolande was the eighth of twelve children to Raoul and Melina Lemieux. She dedicated much of her life to serving others, beginning her career at the hospital in Paradise Hill before becoming the Postmaster in Makwa. Deeply involved in her community, she was the organist at St. Thomas church for 48 years, an active member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL), the Lions Club, and even served as the Mayor of Makwa.
An avid sports enthusiast, Rolande enjoyed curling, badminton, bowling, and softball, always eager to take part in community events. She was a passionate Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, known for her spirited enthusiasm—especially when she would leap from her chair, willing a player across the goal line.
On August 17, 1950, Rolande married the love of her life, Peter Salzl, and together they farmed in Paradise Hill while raising their four sons: Leonard, Gordon, Daniel, and Robert. After Peter’s passing, Rolande found love again and married Paul Beaulieu on September 5, 1960. They settled in Makwa, continuing to farm and run the local post office, and later welcomed another son, Philip.
Rolande is survived by her sons: Leonard (Sharlene), Gordon (Theresa), Daniel, Robert (Sue), and Philip (Nancy); her brother Raymond Lemieux; sisters Jeannine Gervais and Bertha Salzl; as well as 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Peter and Paul; daughter-in-law, Lorette (Dan); and siblings, Delphine, Albert, George, Germaine, Aimee, Helen, Denise, and Charlie.
Prayers will be held on May 23 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Makwa, SK. A service celebrating Rolande’s life will take place on May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Makwa, SK, followed by a lunch at the Makwa Hall. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Rolande’s legacy of love, kindness, and community spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
