Les (Leslie) Polowick

Obituary of Les (Leslie) Polowick

The family of Leslie Polowick of Yorkton, beloved husband of Ina Polowick, sadly announce his passing on January 31, 2025. Les was 78 years of age.

Les (Leslie) Glenn Polowick was born in Yorkton on November 16,1946. He was the 5th and youngest child of John and Sophie Polowick.

Les went to Westbrook School for Grade 1-6, graduating from Theodore. Les continued his education at SIAST in Electrical Engineering but decided this was not what he wanted. He worked various jobs in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He decided to go to Edmonton, Alberta to find work as a 1st year electrician apprentice.

He met his wife, Ina, in May 1972 which resulted in marriage on January 27th, 1973. Schenley John was born on September 7th 1973. Allison Yvonne was born on May 29th 1975.

Les worked for the International Electrical Brotherhood Workers while living in Edmonton, with the majority of time was spent in Fort MacMurray at the Tar Sands. In June 1975, the Union, went on strike. We went to the farm for the summer. Les bought the family farm in August. During this time, in February 1976, Allison passed away. Rachel Lee was born October 25 1976.For the next 16 years, Les farmed until the 1980's brought high interest rates and made it not feasible to continue.

In 1992, Les started looking at businesses in Yorkton and ended up buying Melfort Dairy Queen. Les found his niche being a business owner for the next 10 years. He was a people person and sociable to anyone he met. 2001 was the move back to Yorkton. Les returned back to SIAST to complete his International ticket for electricians. Schooling proved to be difficult at 57 years but he succeeded and now he could work anywhere in the world. He ended back at the Tar Sands in Fort Mac. This is where he worked for the next 20 years, retiring at age 70 years old.

Les was a man of great humor, warmth, and generosity. He was known for his quick wit, clever pranks, and ability to make everyone around him laugh. He had a deep love for current events, never missed the news, and always had an opinion or insight to share. But more than anything, Les simply loved to be wherever his beloved wife Ina Polowick was. She was his constant companion and greatest joy.

Home life was important to Les. There was no need to travel when he had all the love he wanted in life surrounding him. He did make the exception of traveling to Hawaii in 2007. He loved it there.

Not one to sit around, Les found a job with a local cab company for the next 5 years. All his social skills shone once again. It was at this time, COPD and MDS (myaplastria syndrome) started his body. He fought this with all his strength but sadly lost the battle on January 31st 2025. Leslie will be forever in our hearts and forever loved.

Leslie is survived by his wife Ina, son Schenley, daughter Rachel (Simon Trembley) and her children Holden and Lowek, brother, Wendell (Emily) and family. He is predeceased by his parents John and Sophie Polowick, his daughter Allison, sister, Phyllis (Lawrence) and family, sister, Alice (Peter) and family, sister, Evelyn (Don) and family. His family meant everything to him, and his love for them was unwavering and immense.

Les was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He will be remembered for his laughter, kindness, hard work, and the deep love he gave so freely. He will be missed more than words can say.
