The family of Sherwin Lyle Pohl sadly announce his passing on Saturday, Feb 1, 2025. He had been surrounded by much love from his close family and friends during his final days on earth at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, Sask.

Sherwin was the second child born to Reuben and Martha (née Wegner) Pohl, on August 6, 1940. He was raised on the family farm just northwest of Yorkton. It was here, on the century farm homestead, where Sherwin spent his entire life.

Although he had a career with the Department of Highways that spanned 26 years, followed by employment with Midland Vegetation Control, his heart belonged to the family farm, established by his grandfather, Fred Pohl. Sherwin sacrificed his days off, as well as free time to help his dad Reuben, and later his son Nelson, with their farming operations. Sherwin expected no monetary gain in return for all his hard work and efforts. He selflessly gave up any luxuries for the benefit of his family. This carried on into his later years when he would work on the job with Nelson's business, A-1 Furnace Cleaning.

Anything with a motor and wheels was kept in good repair by Sherwin. Friends and neighbors often sought his expertise when they had a breakdown in any type of farming machinery or vehicle. Not once did Susan or Nelson need to go to a garage for repairs!

Always an outdoor guy, Sherwin was most often busy out in the shop. He also loved hunting and any outdoor activity. He had a very strong work ethic.

Sherwin was an extremely generous man in all aspects of life. He freely gave of his time and talents, and would never turn down anyone in need of help. He cared deeply for people, and hated to see anybody in suffering or pain.

Sherwin met his wife Susan (née Rousay) when she was still in High School. They remained a couple for over 60 years. They married in 1966 and in 1967 were blessed with a son, Nelson. The three became not only an inseparable team, but also best friends, each complementing one another other with their knowledge and talents. In 2006 Nelson married Nicole (née Blockeel), and they gave Sherwin his greatest joys, Olivia and Rachel.

He was a loving, devoted grandfather to “his girls”. He would spend hours with them, giving of everything he had. He adored his family. Sherwin excelled at being Grandpa. Even in his late 70s he was climbing play structures and biking with them.

Sherwin was predeceased by his parents, Reuben and Martha, as well as his older sister Dorothy Zorn. Sherwin leaves behind to mourn his loss his beloved and devoted wife Susan; their son Nelson, daughter-in-law Nicole, and granddaughters Olivia and Rachel. He also leaves his younger sister Louinna (Dale) Hoffman, as well as his younger brother, Rod (Chris) Pohl, and their families. He will be greatly missed. “My health and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart, my portion forever.” (Psalm 73:26 NIV)
