Obituary of Alice Rushinko

The family of Alice Rushinko of Ituna, beloved wife of the late Roman Rushinko sadly announce her passing on Saturday, February 15, 2025. Alice was 79 years of age.

A Memorial Service is being planned for a later date with the interment to follow in the St. Stanislaus Country Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Alice may be made to the St. Stanislaus Country Cemetery as gifts of remembrance.

Alice was born in Yorkton Hospital on April 14, 1945 to loving parents George and Edna Hoy of Fitzmaurice, SK. After her birth, she resided on the family farm with her only sister, Ethyl, and her parents. Alice mentioned that her Uncle Peter Hoy was a big influence as he was a frequent visitor at the farm.

Alice attended a small one room school called Forest Nook until Grade 8, with Elaine Zrymiak, who remained Alice’s best friend until her passing.

Alice often mentioned she was a “tomboy” growing up. Spending much of her time with her dad George and Uncle Pete, not ever helping with household chores.

After Grade 8, Alice had to venture off to Ituna to finish her high school. She boarded with two families, as was common practice of the time.

Alice met a young fella by the name of Roman in 1961, and after her graduation in 1962, they were married in Ituna. After a brief stay in Ituna, they ventured off to Regina where Roman found work at a steel mill.

In 1963, they started a family with the birth of the first of four boys, Dale. Soon after, Roman and Alice bought a new house in 1964, and their second son Darrell was born in 1965. Scott arrived in 1969, followed by Stacy in 1972.

Although they had a wonderful life in Regina with many great friends and lots of family, they decided to move back to the family farm in 1974. Life on the farm again was great with a lot of old and close friends and neighbours.

Both Roman and Alice were active in the community and church. Roman and Alice had a fulfilling life in the community and watched their sons grow up, get married, and start families of their own.

Alice got a job at the Pioneer Lodge in Ituna once her boys left; where she worked for 21 years.

A few years after Roman’s sudden passing, Alice decided it was time to move to Ituna. Once settled into her house, Alice was part of several groups, of which the Hubbard Ladies Club and the UCW were her favourites. Alice had dozens of new and old friends and town life suited her well.

Alice’s passion was quilting and making perogies with any group that would call. Alice loved visiting, especially with family and all of her grandchildren.

Unfortunately, Alice was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2024, and after a strong battle, she lost the fight on February 15, 2025.

Alice will be remembered by her loving family and dozens of close friends.
