Daralyn Jeanne McGill passed away peacefully in Souris, MB on February 18, 2025. She was 82 years of age. Daralyn was born July 24, 1942, and was the only child of Samuel and Lois Dodds. She spent her school days in Yorkton, SK graduating from Yorkton Collegiate in 1960. She then attended the Regina General Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1963 and nursed in Yorkton, Arborg, and the Medical Arts Clinic in Regina. Daralyn decided to leave nursing when her daughters were born. Once they were of school age, Daralyn worked for Statistics Canada and then was employed as the Home Care Resource Coordinator in Roblin, MB. She enjoyed this work for over 20 years.
Daralyn had impeccable taste. Whether it was decorating her home, cooking an elegant meal or arranging flowers, every detail was thoughtfully considered. Her lemon tarts, French and cinnamon toast, and homemade pastry were just a few of her most requested recipes.
Daralyn had an array of creative interests. She crocheted, sewed Barbie clothes, made petit point brooches, and took painting and ceramic classes. She also had a deep love for music. She played the piano “when no one was listening,” and the organ for the Wizard of Oz school musical. She had a beautiful singing voice and was involved in a variety of choir performances. In most recent years, Daralyn enjoyed late night conversations and jigsaw puzzle marathons at the Roblin Apartments.
Daralyn’s greatest joy was her family. Her daughters, Jodi and Erin, are left with lasting memories and life lessons. Her granddaughter, Lauren, brought immense pride and happiness to her life. She was affectionately known as “Grammy.” She and Lauren could be found dancing to the Oldies, putting on skits, painting and enjoying a sleepover or two.
We would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. It is a testament to the connections she made throughout her lifetime. Daralyn will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Left to cherish Daralyn’s memory are daughters Jodi Campbell (Langdon), Erin McGill (Matt Brown), granddaughter Lauren, and many special cousins and friends.
“Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me
Somewhere over the rainbow bluebirds fly
Birds fly over the rainbow
Why then, oh, why can’t I”
