1940 - 2025

The family of Ed Soloski, beloved husband of Janet (Blommaert), announces his passing on February 20, 2025, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK.

Born on July 6, 1940, to Jean and Frank Soloski in Canora, SK, Ed grew up on the family farm, where his strong work ethic and dedication to others were instilled early in life. From these humble beginnings, he went on to become a respected Lab and X-Ray Technician and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). His 50+ year career in healthcare, which began in 1961 as a CCT in Regina, spanned multiple hospitals and healthcare centers across Saskatchewan, including Cupar, Esterhazy, Ile-à-la-Crosse, Langenburg, La Loche, Maryfield, Porcupine Plains, and Redvers. In each of these places, Ed made a lasting impact on the lives of countless patients, known for his expertise, compassion, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Ed was a proud and dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus, joining in 1970 and achieving the esteemed rank of 4th Degree Knight in 1984. His service to the organization included charitable work, community initiatives, and an especially significant role as part of the Honor Guard during Pope John Paul II's visit to Edmonton in 1984.

In addition to his healthcare and community work, Ed was also an avid umpire, officiating baseball games for close to 30 years. 

His sense of duty extended beyond his professional life—whether saving a neighbor's baby, diagnosing a colleague's medical condition, or providing care to patients in remote communities, Ed was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Ed’s love for his family was evident in all aspects of his life. He was a devoted husband to Janet for 61 years, a proud father to Kevin (Bev), Brenda (Todd), and LeeAnne (Chris), and a cherished grandfather to Kaedyn and Aemilia. Family was at the heart of everything he did, and he treasured the time spent with those he loved.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Frank Soloski, his in-laws Dorothy and Marinus Blommaert, his sister Evelyn, and his brothers-in-law Bill, Eugene, and Herman. He is survived by his loving wife, Janet, his children, grandchildren, his brother Lorne (Rose) of Saskatoon, his sisters Elizabeth, Marlene, and Teresa (Ben), as well as many other relatives and friends.

Ed’s passing is a great loss to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and the love and kindness he shared will never be forgotten.
