Adeline Markham

Obituary of Adeline Markham

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Adeline Rose Markham, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family.

Adeline was born September 26, 1943 to Pete and Julia (Dubiel) Blazeiko at Yorkton Hospital.   She was their first born, with Tony and Donald Michael following and in August 1959, the Blazeiko family was blessed with the addition of Donald Gale.

As a young girl, she went to the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Willowbrook and loved to sing in the choir.  She attended Center School, Willowbrook School and then Yorkton Collegiate.  After finishing school, she worked for Propps Federation for 1 1/2 years before she started with SaskTel.

Adeline’s life was centered around caring for those she loved. She married the love of her life Larry in October 1965, and shared nearly 60 beautiful years together, creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and devotion. After their first year of marriage, they settled on Adeline’s family's farm near Willowbrook.  She was always there for her parents, ensuring they were cared for and making countless trips to Regina and Saskatoon to help them. Even after her mother’s passing, Adeline remained a pillar of support for her brother Don, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Adeline and Larry were blessed with three children whom she adored and would do anything for, no matter how big or small. Whether it was a simple favor, a phone call for support, or just being there when they needed her, she gave her love freely and unconditionally.

With their children living away from Yorkton, mom and dad cherished trips to visit Wendy and Craig in Winnipeg and Ontario.  One special trip was to the east coast with Wendy, Craig, Lori, Ron and the boys which brought them much joy.  Their annual visits to Abbotsford to see Doug and Karen became a tradition filled with love and laughter. Once their grandson, Ethan, was born, trips to Saskatoon increased until recent years.  Their adventures together created memories that will be treasured forever.

Mom loved the outdoors. Her breathtaking lily garden, with over 500 flowers, was a reflection of her nurturing spirit, a vibrant display of beauty and care that could be admired from the highway.  Mom and dad loved camping and fishing, and over the last number of years, there was an annual family camping trip at Crooked Lake.

Mom was an avid Jets and Blue Jays fan.   If you stopped by for coffee, she was sure to update you on individual players and the team’s win-loss record.

Following Mom’s retirement from SaskTel in 1998, she volunteered for many years with SaskTel Pioneers and Camp O’Neil. Mom was a member of the Catholic Women’s League and was involved with several ministries with St. Gerard’s Church. Our parents were always eager to keep us up-to-date with all their activities with the church, especially their perogie-making.

Two years ago, Adeline and Larry made the difficult decision to leave their farm and move to Yorkton, where they continued their journey together.

Left to cherish her memory, is her devoted husband of nearly 60 years, Larry Markham; her children Lori (Ron) and stepchildren Hayden and Liam; Doug (Karen) and stepchildren Melissa, Miranda, Duke and their families; Wendy (Craig) and her treasured grandson, Ethan.

She is also lovingly remembered by her life-long friend and brother Tony Blazeiko; special friend and sister-in-law, Marlene Markham; along with Don (Reta) Markham, Sharon (Elmer) Schick, Dorothy Weinbender, Noreen (Carl) Rudachyk, Donna (John) Germs, Allen Cooper as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Adeline was predeceased by her parents, Pete and Julie Blazeiko; brothers Donald Michael Blazeiko and Donald Gale Blazeiko; sisters-in-law Jill Blazeiko and Linda Cooper; brothers-in-law Charles Markham, Quentin Weinbender, and Rick Markham. She was also predeceased by in-laws Walter Markham, Edna Markham-Eckhardt, and Bill Eckardt; and nephews Barry Blazeiko and Ryan Germs.

Adeline was deeply loved and will forever be missed. Her family and friends are grateful for the many years they had with her and will cherish her memory always.

Memorials in memory of Adeline may be made to the Yorkton SPCA or Salvation Army as gifts of remembrance.
