Leona Neufeld passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025 at the Yorkton Regional Health Care Centre. She was born to William and Helen Wruck on December 16, 1936 on the family farm in the Bergheim District near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. As a young adolescent she moved to Saskatoon and found employment at Adilman’s Department Store in the shoe department and later on at Intercontinental Packers Ltd.
An avid sports woman, Leona played softball in her younger years. This is where she met Victor, fell in love and married him in October of 1958. Over the years she enjoyed curling and golfing, and spent many hours with Victor and friends playing their home courses as well as the various courses throughout their travels across North America.
Leona had many creative interests. She crocheted and sewed numerous items, including many of her daughters clothes and halloween costumes. She enjoyed gardening and baking, and everyone looked forward to her Christmas dainties. Leona had a deep love of music. She played the piano, sang in many choirs and a women’s quartet, but most of all, she loved playing and singing her favourite songs at home with her daughters joining in on a Sunday afternoon. At the end of the day, you would often find her either reading a book, setting a puzzle or doing crosswords.
Over the years, Victor’s employment moved them around the province where Leona was actively involved in her church. She taught Sunday School, served on the women’s church groups, directed church choirs, held weekly bible studies in their home, and never missed an opportunity to share her faith with others.
Leona’s greatest joy was her family. Whether it was teaching her daughters life lessons or spending quality time with her grandchildren, she loved them all dearly.
Leona was predeceased by her parents along with her four brothers, Otto, Harold, Donald and Martin; two sisters, Anne and Lori; and grandchildren Alyssa and Matthew.
Leona is lovingly remembered by her husband Victor; daughters, Merridee and Corinn; sons-in-laws, Rae and Tim; grandchildren Christopher and Brooklyn; her sister, Dahlia; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
Leona’s family would like to thank the Yorkton Regional Health Centre doctors, nurses and staff, who were such a blessing to her during her stay in the hospital; family and friends who sent food, and flowers, and for all their kind words and prayers. Her family would also like to thank Ray and Margaret Anne Yost; Linda Sogbetun; Bailey’s Funeral Home for arrangements; All About Flowers; and for everyone who attended Leona’s service to celebrate her life
