Shirley was born November 26th 1963 to Walter and Lydia Siever at Hodgeville Union Hospital in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan. There she grew up and lived with five older siblings and five younger siblings on the family farm near Hallonquist, Saskatchewan. She was in a unique position to be cared for and then to care for the younger ones. Shirley learned farm chores like tending to poultry and gardens and fruit trees and helping bring in the produce, which they all enjoyed during winter. Shirley’s mother taught her how to clean milking equipment, cream separator and pollinate zucchini.

In June 1978 at the age of 14 Shirley’s mother Lydia passed away from leukemia leaving the youngest Michael at just four years of age which Shirley helped look after.

She was diagnosed with Celiac before age one and was in and out of hospital quite a bit. She attended C.H. Peart High School in Vanguard, Saskatchewan where according to her sister Lorna was the master tag organizer at the elementary school at recess. In the summer after finishing grade eleven she lived in Swift Current with her sister Lois where she landed her first job at McDonalds. After graduating in 1982 from C.H Peart High School in Vanguard she moved to Regina to live with her sister Vivian and young family which she helped care for. While her sister was stabling her horse, she met her future husband Brian Boyko there. After tasting one of the hamburgers Shirley made for him at the Dairy Queen where she worked, Brian said “she’s the one” and asked her out on a date. On July 23rd 1983 Shirley and Brian were united in marriage at St. John the Baptist Church in Swift Current. After being married Brian and Shirley lived in Regina where they both worked until they moved onto the family farm near Hubbard in 1984. They purchased a mobile home and lived on the same yard as Brian’s parents where Shirley looked after them. Shirley loved gardening and cooking as she had a magic touch with her hands, as well she loved roses, hummingbirds and solar lights. In March 1995 Shirley’s father-in-law John Boyko passed away and five months later in August her mother-in-law Katherine Boyko passed away. On November 9th 1996 Shirley’s dad Walter passed away in Swift Current. As Shirley and Brian were not able to have children of their own, they decided to adopt, then in 1998 they were blessed to adopt twin boys from New Brunswick, Joshua and Jacob, then in 2000 were blessed again with a daughter Gabrielle from New Brunswick. These children Shirley absolutely loved and cared for and helped with all their schoolwork. Brian and Shirley had these children in as many activities as they could and wanted them to experience things that they weren’t able to.

In July 27th 2016 Shirley and Brian was blessed on the birth of a grandson Layton Clyde Boyko and again on June 2nd 2020 on the birth of a granddaughter Sophia Lydia Boyko. These two grandchildren Shirley loved to the moon and back and as of this time Shirley will miss the birth of a grandson that Gabrielle is expecting in April 2025 but we will be sure she will be smiling down on him.

In 2017 Shirley got into the food truck business with a small camper turned food trailer. In 2019 she purchased a thirty-foot food trailer calling herself Pink Ladies Catering and Concession to which she operated till her passing. Shirley had a passion for cooking and loved meeting new people and travelling around the province with her food trailer. As she was diagnosed with Celiac Disease she decided to make her trailer Gluten Free as she knew how hard it was to find Gluten Free food. Her son Jacob worked alongside Shirley and she taught him many things about cooking as her hands had a magic touch in everything she touched.

She leaves to mourn her passing, husband Brian, sons Joshua and Jacob, daughter Gabrielle, grandson Layton Boyko, granddaughter Sophia Boyko, sisters: Vivian Siever, Lois Carr, Angela (Richard)  Yanush, Lorna Siever, Brenda (Dennis) Chupik, brothers: Joseph, Lloyd (Janet), David, Kevin, Michael (Jill), brother-in-law Harold Hadewich (Gloria) Hadewich and numerous nieces and nephews.
