Obituary of Mike Pankiw

The family of Mike Pankiw of Esterhazy, formerly of Goodeve sadly announce his passing on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Mike was 91 years of age.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00p.m. from the Chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home with Father Michael Faryna officiating.

The Interment will follow in the Melville Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Mike may be made to the Alzheimers Society or Ducks Unlimited Canada as gifts of remembrance.

It is with sadness, the family of Mike Pankiw of Esterhazy, SK (formerly of Goodeve, SK) announce his passing on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy.

He was born in Goodeve on September 17, 1933 to Wasyl and Kateryna (Bekesh) Pankiw. He grew up on the family farm near Goodeve and attended Halech school. He loved farming and farmed throughout his life until his retirement to Melville, SK. He was an animal lover and showed great care to the livestock and pets, and livestock that turned into pets, on the farm. He enjoyed being outdoors, and fishing was his favourite pastime, whether in the summer or winter. He liked going to auction sales looking for bargains and to meet up with friends. He was an active member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Holy Ghost in Goodeve and St. Mary, the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Melville in his retirement.

He is survived by his daughter Amanda (Paul Story); his sister Linda Simmons; brother Russel (Rosalie); sister Darlene Baran; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Wasyl and Kateryna; brothers and sisters-in-law Nick and Mary and John and Catherine Pankiw; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary and George Petriw and Olga and Peter Kozey; brothers-in-law Brent Simmons and Mike Baran; and nephews Douglas Simmons, David Petriw and Jerry Pankiw. We extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy for the kind and wonderful care given to him.
