Mary McGerrigle

Obituary of Mary McGerrigle

Mary was born on April 10, 1929 on a farm near West Bend SK to Wasyl and Anne Boiko (Temoshawski). Wasyl and Anne had five children: Nicholas, Mary, Adele, Vicky and Emily. Nicholas passed away at the age of eight. The girls lost their parents at an early age, so Mary and her sisters were raised by relatives. Mary left school to work as a nurses’ aide in the Canora Hospital, then took a job in Stenen, working at the general store. It was here that she met A.J. (Buck) McGerrigle. They were married in June 1949. They were blessed with four children: Ross, Patric, Debra and Kelly.

The family moved to Yorkton in the early ‘70’s. Mary was employed at the Imperial 400 for several years as head housekeeper. Her outside interests included the Anavets, Ladies’ Legion Auxiliary and Pythian Sisters.

Following Buck’s passing in 2002, Mary continued to live on her own at Independent Manor, where she enjoyed friendships, musical entertainment and cooking great meals for visiting family. She will always be remembered for her wonderful cabbage rolls and the best lemon meringue pies.

Mary’s health began to decline last year; she moved to Aspen Villa in April 2024, then to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home in October. The family would like to extend their thanks to the caregivers at the nursing home for their compassionate care. Mary passed away peacefully in the morning hours of Wednesday, March 19. She was predeceased by her brother and sisters, husband A.J. (Buck), son Kelly and granddaughter Clancy. Those left to celebrate her life are sons Ross, Patric (Bonnie), daughter Debra, granddaughters Sarah, Miel, Shaylyn (Jay), Kellen (Ryan) and great-grandson George.

A private family graveside service will be held this summer. For those wishing, charitable donations may be made to Yorkton Wildlife Federation (Box 1542, Yorkton, SK S3N 3K3 or etransfer to yorktonwildlifefederation@gmail.com) or the Canadian Lung Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care, Yorkton.
