Reinold Gelowitz

Obituary of Reinold Gelowitz

Reinold was born on April 1, 1936 in Grayson, SK to John and Anne Gelowitz and was the third oldest of six children. He spent his childhood on a farm west of Grayson where he attended elementary school at the Gelowitz School and completed Grade 7. He had to quit school to work on the family farm and that’s where his love of work began.

On July 17, 1961 Reinold married his high-school sweetheart, Elsie and soon moved to their new farm house that they built in 1963 where they started their family. They were blessed with three children, Sharon, Murray and Leanne.

Reinold was never one to sit still and it was prevalent in his work. He farmed full time with his brother Allan, built many houses in the village of Grayson and excelled in finishing work, and was a musician. He played nearly two thousand gigs with his band, the Rhythm Orchids.

Even though Reinold was busy, he was a natural athlete and still found time to do the things he enjoyed like golfing, curling, baseball, hockey, coaching, bowling, hunting, and fishing. Most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family at the farm and at the camper for over 27 years at Exner Twin Bays on Crooked Lake. He also spent many hours volunteering in the village of Grayson, whether it was with polka days, the church picnic, coaching hockey, or with the parish council. He was also a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus.

In 2007 Reinold and Elsie decided to retire in the town of Grayson, where they continued to garden, manicure their lawn, attend weekly mass, and spend countless hours at the Last Oak Golf Course right up to the age of 88. He was able to spend time with his eight grand children and nine great grand children.

Reinold leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Elsie, his son-in-law Francis and his children Kelci (Brad), Riley (Tannis), Cassidy (Jordan), his son Murray (Rhonda), and their children Braden (Carla), Jordan (Paige), Justin (Desiree), and his daughter Leanne and her children Daegan (Lindsay), and Delanie, along with nine great grand children and his two siblings, Freda, and Joe.

Reinold was predeceased by his parents, his daughter Sharon and siblings Clarence, Allan and Mildred.
