Obituary of Agnes Osicki
Agnes Mary Osicki (Kormos) was born of Hungarian descent on the family homestead near Otthon, Saskatchewan on December 23, 1928. She heard The Lord’s Call at the fifth hour on The Day of The Lord’s Resurrection (Sunday) on March 30, 2025. Born tiny at birth, she had to “fight the good fight” right from her first day; this, along with her devoted faith and prayer-life, helped her face challenges and hardships on her life’s journey of 96 years. After marrying her darling Henry in 1948 at Otthon Holy Trinity Church, together they grain-farmed in addition to raising a variety of animals (including dogs, cattle, horses, pigs, sheep, goats), and poultry (hens, turkeys, ducks, geese) on a section of land in the Brewer, SK area. Together they defined the mixed-farm, the concept of “living off the land,” sacrifice, and the hard work ethic.
Agnes and Henry were blessed with five children and married for 34 years when Henry passed away (August 2, 1982). The farming/gardening partnership then took on a new challenge. Greg recalls her inner strength and remembers “where Dad left off, she just took over.” Agnes retired in Melville in 1998. There, she resided in a perfectly-located house right across the street from St. Henry’s Parish where she was so pleased to attend daily Rosary and Mass which gave her much comfort and joy along with endearing friendships within her faith family.
Agnes was a humble woman of many passions and talents: gardening and preserving much bounty from her huge garden, knitting, crocheting, embroidering, puzzling, cooking, baking decadent desserts, collecting and writing recipes in her stylized penmanship, hosting family celebrations, sharing hospitality with guests, playing Kaiser, reading and keeping up-to-date on current events, volunteering with the Rosary Sodality, visiting residents at St. Paul Lutheran Home (where she herself spent her last years), supporting and encouraging loved ones in reaching goals, and her most devoted passion was praying (especially the Rosary) and lifting up intentions for family and friends. She was the Matriarch and Prayer Warrior for the family
Health ailments over the years made for moves to care homes, the most recent being St. Paul Lutheran Home (since 2020); the family is very grateful to the doctors and staff for their compassionate and palliative care and to Father Melchor Samonte for blessing Agnes with the Anointing of the Sick.
Agnes was predeceased by her HUSBAND, Henry Osicki, her PARENTS Emerick and Mary Kormos, her SIBLINGS and their spouses: Julius Kormos (Joan), Jimmy Kormos (Annie), Grace Koselowski (Arthur); her HUSBAND’S PARENTS Walter and Praxeda Osicki, his SIBLINGS and their spouses: Elizabeth Morris (Frank), Violet Schofer (John), Pearl Maserek (Conrad) and Lydia Clay (Ross).
