




Obituary of Anna Swerhun
The family of Anna Swerhun of Yorkton, beloved widow of William Swerhun, sadly announce her passing on Monday, March 31, 2025. She was 94 years of age.
Anna Georgina was born in Calder in 1931 to Mike G. Marteniuk and Olga Marnowich. She attended Calder School to Grade 11 and then worked on the farm to help her parents for one year. They lived on the family farm one mile from Calder.
In 1949, Anna married William (Billy) Swerhun in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in McNutt. Billy bought a farm five miles south of Calder and farmed there for twelve years. They had three children - Robert Reid Willam, David Steven and Bonny Linda Lee.
Anna and Billy moved to the town of Calder so the boys could go to school. Anna worked in the store, the library, and babysat. In 1987, Anna, Billy and Bonny moved to Yorkton so that Bonny could attend Yorkton Regional High School.
In Yorkton, Anna and Billy enjoyed many activities including dancing. Anna curled and looked after her parent Mike and Olga Marteniuk. Anna and Billy always had a nice garden and lots of flowers. Anna enjoyed baking, cooking and canning. Anna and Billy went on lots of trips including Vancouver, Courtney, Campbell River, Niagara Falls, Oshawa, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and Red Deer.
In 2014, Anna moved to Fisher Court where she enjoyed cards and bingo. She made many new friends and participated in many activities. In 2020, Anna moved to lnvermay Health Centre and Gateway Lodge and later Yorkton District Nursing Home.
Anna is predeceased by her parents - her mother, Olga Marteniuk, in 1999 and her father, Mike Mareniuk, in 2011. She is predeceased by her husband Billy Swerhun in 1997, her son Robert Swerhun in 2020, her brother Paul Marteniuk in 2006, her brother Tom Marteniuk in 2020, and her sister Genevieve McLeod in 2021.
Anna leaves to mourn her passing to her children David (Donna) and Bonny (Neil), her grandchildren Carissa, Jonathan (Alex) and Alanna (Colin), great granddaughter Charlotte, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Anna will be greatly missed, leaving a huge hole in their lives to be filled with the kind and cherished memories of the time they spent together.
The Funeral Service was held on Monday, April 7, 2025 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre, Yorkton, SK. with Rev. Jen Dresser of St. Andrew’s United Church officiating. Tributes and words of remembrance were shared by granddaughter Carissa Maddaford and daughter in law Donna Swerhun. The interment followed in the Garden of Devotion, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with David Swerhun, Donald Tkachuk, Terry Marteniuk and Gerald Shymko serving as casket bearers.
