Lawrence Herman

Obituary of Lawrence Herman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence William Herman on April 7, 2025 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre with his wife and daughter-in-law by his side.  He was 89 years old.

Lawrence, son of G.J. and Martha Herman (nee Engel) entered this world on March 4,1936 at the family farm in the Wallace district.  He was raised on the farm along with his siblings Arnold, Alvin, Irene and Ruth.  He attended Wallace School and completed his education at the Yorkton Collegiate Institute.  He then farmed alongside his father and brother Arnold.

Lawrence was a lifelong member of the Christ Lutheran Church, and it was through the Luther League that he began courting Audrey Propp.  They were married on June 5, 1965 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.  They continued farming and began their family: Paula, James, Jacqueline, Kyla, Marc and Jonathan.  It was a busy household.

Lawrence was a member of the Rhein Curling Club, the Rhein Recreation Board, and served many terms as a council member of the church.  He enjoyed curling and attended many bonspiels in the winter with Uncle Fred.  He was supportive of the kids’ activities and worked many fundraisers for them.  He was a proud Grampa when the grandbabies arrived.

Lawrence and Audrey left the farm in 2016 and were happy to have Marc and Julie take over.  Lawrence was meticulous with mowing the grass, feeding stray cats and attending coffee at the Golden Agers.  He was happy with the remote in his hand, watching the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs.  Health issues eventually forced him to slow down and become a homebody.

Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, G.J. and Martha Herman, brother Arnold, sister and brother-in-law Irene and Dan Risling, sister Ruth, and brothers-in-law Ron (Annette) Propp and Stuart Greenstein.

Lawrence is survived by his loving wife Audrey; children Paula (Shawn) Hamelin, James Herman, Jackie (Dennis) Weimer, Kyla (Rob) Liggett, Marc (Julie) Herman, Jon (Candice) Herman; grandchildren Jade and Haylee Weimer, Jeremy and Tyler Hamelin, Addison and Brielle Herman, and Colby Herman; brother Alvin (Marlene) Herman; sisters-in-law Loretta Herman and Barb Greenstein; and many dear nieces and nephews

Accompanist Karin Roulston led the congregation in the Hymns ‘Great is Thy Faithfulness’‘Precious Lord, Take My Hand '‘Day By Day ‘‘How Great Thou Art’.
