Pat was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on March 29, 1941 to Jacob and Jean (nee Beatty) Sherwin. She was raised on the family farm just north of Tonkin. She attended Shamrock School and completed her Grade 11 at the Yorkton Collegiate. Pat then enrolled and completed her Secretarial Course.
Pat married Hansel Weinmeister on November 26, 1960. They had four children together; Tracy, Shelly, Rod and Tim. Shortly after Tracy was born in 1961, they moved to Northern Ontario, where Shelly was born in 1963 and Rod in 1964. In 1965-66 they moved back to Yorkton where Tim was born in 1966.
Pat’s working career included the Business/Administration Office at the Co-op, the Bank of Montreal and also the Yorkton Exhibition at Fair time every summer.
In 1980 the family moved to Viceroy. Pat worked for the Bank of Montreal in Assiniboia and later in Regina and Moose Jaw. Pat was a mentor to many Bank employees; she became a trusted familiar face to many customers over her career. She also worked at the Super 8 Motel in Moose Jaw and retired when she turned 65.
Pat loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She took pride in sewing Tracy’s dress for her Wedding. She sewed many of her own outfits for work and other special occasions which included matching outfits for all of us.
Pat loved to visit and get to know people. She was very outgoing and made many a friend over her years.
Pat loved to curl and started at an early age at the Tonkin Curling Rink. She also attended some Roughriders games, the Scotties in Regina and the Grand Slam Curling in Yorkton. She spent time watching the curling games on TV. She had a special interest in the Calgary Stampede and the Chuckwagon races and watched those every year as well.
The family went on a trip each year, which included travelling to Western Canada, and into the USA, camping at Good Spirit Lake and the Annual trip to the Narrows in Waskesiu Lake. There they camped along with other very close friends and their families almost every year.
Pat loved her visits with her family and friends, whether it was in person or phone calls. She never missed anyone’s Birthday or Anniversary, she would celebrate with family and friends always with a phone call and a Card.
Pat treasured all her time with her children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, who all called her “Granny”. Her walls and shelves in her home were full of all of her family pictures and mementos that she treasured. She looked forward and loved to get the new updated photos each year.
Pat met Ray Silzer while living in Regina, they were married in Moose Jaw on October 8, 1994, where they lived until her passing on April 1, 2025.
Pat and Ray both enjoyed golfing and they were also members of the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans Club in Moose Jaw, where Pat played bridge each week. They also enjoyed the weekly “Meat Draw” where they would get together with friends and visit as well.
Pat loved to bake and enjoyed her garden and flowers each year, growing beautiful tomato plants. She loved to share her cakes, cookies, and canning with family and the neighbour friends.
