We celebrate the life of Ustena (Jean) Patricia Krywulak (nee Pietrucha). Jean passed away peacefully in the early morning of April 28, 2025 with her daughters by her side. Jean was born June 2, 1940 to Lucas Roy Pietrucha and Kataryna (nee Stanicki) on the Pietrucha family farm. Mom was born the seventh of eleven children. Mom was seven years old when her mother passed away. Her older siblings particularly her sisters Molly and Angela were instrumental in Mom’s upbringing. She learned cooking, cleaning, organizational skills and nurturing from them. Jean met Peter K. Krywulak in 1956. Dad played guitar in a band and we laughed that Mom was one of the band’s groupie or Dad’s groupie! They wed October 20, 1957 and celebrated 47 years of marriage before Dad’s passing in 2004. After Dad’s passing Mom moved to Saskatoon in 2005 and then to Kelowna in 2014. Mom suffered serious health issues and returned home to Saskatchewan in 2015.
Mom loved to bake and cook, teaching all of us her traditional recipes. She was very artistic including being a wonderful seamstress, crocheting, knitting and cross stitching. Mom also excelled at gardening and always had beautiful flowers that attracted humming birds each summer. Family was very important to Mom, she loved and cherished her siblings.
Jean’s legacy: Marlene Muzyka (Dennis); Colleen Schneider (Darrell); Bernice Floyd (Gord); Sharon Mueller (Rick); Amy Strobl (Ricky). Her legacy continues with her grandchildren: Libertee May (James); Lindzay Muzyka (Karla); Lecina Hickie (Alex Ansell); Russell Schneider; Adrienne Floyd (Tyler Briggs); Erin DeGagne (Jamie); Alii Hesterman (Ryan); TK Mueller (Ashlyn Preuss); Adam Mueller (Karah Rogers).
Jean’s legacy continues with her great grandchildren; Drake Schneider, Emelie Schneider, Theo Briggs, Oscar May, Jace Muzyka, Zayne Hesterman, Dane Briggs, Xander Strobl-Read, Addie-Jay Hesterman, Averie DeGagne & Arlo DeGagne.
Jean is also survived by sisters; Angela Lazeski; Olga Majola (Walter); Josie Stone, Cathy Topp, Rose Rogers (Tom); Toni Chornomitz; sister is law Lillian Pietrucha, Rose McLean (Dan) & Olga Kozun; brother-in-law Billy Krywulak (Sylvia)
Jean is predeceased by parents, her husband Peter in 2004, grandson Kelly Strobl in 2019. Also, brothers John, Stanley & Andrew – in childbirth. In addition, she was predeceased by brothers Mike, Stephen, Phillip and sister Molly.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Ituna Long Term Care for the loving care they provided our Mom over the last couple of years. Mom loved the staff, the facility and the food. Thank you for the love and gentle care.
