Obituary of Carol Armbruster
Carol Rosalie (Jones) Armbruster entered eternal rest on May 6th, 2025 at Lakeside Manor Care Home, Saltcoats, surrounded by love and care. She was 88 years old.
Carol was born on February 12th, 1937 to Elmer and Olive Jones on NE 17-23-2 in the RM of Saltcoats. She attended Boakeveiw School until grade 9 and finished her high school at Saltcoats School. After graduating she decided to make the move to Regina where she worked for a short time as a telephone operator for the Saskatchewan Government Telephones (SGT).
On May 27th, 1957, she married her husband Leonard Armbruster and moved back to the farm on SE 8-23-2 in Saltcoats, where together they built a farm and family- a life marked by hard work and devotion. In 1964 the farm expanded and in doing so relocated to SE19-23-2. In February of 1967, Leonard and Carols family home caught fire. Friends and neighbors arrived to help by horse and sleigh as the roads were blocked by a harsh winter storm. That summer they rebuilt in the same yard where the existing home still remains.
In 1979, Leonard and Carol semi-retired and their son took over the main farm. An acreage by Saltcoats became their new home where they began a small feedlot with horses. Business was thriving and the next adventure was thoroughbred horse racing which led to many trips to the racetrack to cheer on her favorite horses.
Carol's commitments also extended well beyond the farm. She was deeply engaged with Boakeveiw, the Perley ladies clubs and an active member of the church. She also served as secretary and treasurer for the Saltcoats Agricultural Society for many years, a position in which she excelled and was widely respected.
Leonard passed away in 2007 and a few years later Carol decided to fully retire and move into Saltcoats. Her later years were spent with family and two great friends in particular- Jean and Shelia. Together they toured the countryside checking crops, occasionally delivering a harvest meal and enjoying each day in all its beauty. Many miles were made and many laughs were had!
Carol is loving remembered by her son, Joe and daughter in-law Caroline (Drotar) Armbruster, her daughter Deana (David) Verkerk and her grandchildren, Lindsay Malachowski, Joel Armbruster, Kelly Orr, Courtney Stanley, Caitlin Armbruster, Blaze Davie, Katja and Timothy Verkerk, and her many great grandchildren all of whom brought her love, smiles and laughter.
Carol is predeceased by her husband Leonard, her daughter Debra Davie, her son Timothy Armbruster, her grand daughter Sophia Verkerk and her brother William Jones.
She will be remembered for her strength, warmth, faith, and the deep love she had for her family.
Carol's family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Melville Hospital and the Saltcoats nursing home for their compassionate care during her last month.
The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, June 10 from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Yorkton with Pastor Kim Sherwin officiating. Deana Verkerk delivered the eulogy. Lindsay Malachowski, Jesse Stanley and Rachel Armbruster read the scripture readings. The honorary casket bearers are all of Carol's grandchildren and great grandchildren. A family interment followed in the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Timothy Verkerk, Joel Armbruster, Brett Stanley, Brent Neumann, Blaze Davie and Karen Satterthwaite serving as casket bearers.
Memorial donations may be made to Lakeside Manor Care Home as gifts of remembrance.
