Obituary of Olga Masur
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Olga Masur (nee Yuskow), beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 96.
Born in Birmingham, Saskatchewan on October 30, 1928, Olga was one of eight children born to John and Annie Yuskow. Raised in a close-knit farming family, she spent her early years in the Birmingham and Goodeve areas before moving with her family to Asherville, Manitoba. There, Olga helped care for her younger siblings while contributing to the daily work on the farm—a nurturing spirit she carried throughout her life.
Olga met her husband, Gus Masur, while visiting her sister Nellie and brother-in-law Bill near McKim, Saskatchewan. The two were married in 1946, and Olga joined Gus on the family farm where they raised their four children: Ronald, Donald, Debra, and Roger. Olga poured her heart into family life—caring for her children, tending a large garden, and filling their home with the comforting aromas of homemade preserves and fresh baking.
Olga found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment and milestone. Her joy extended to the flowerbeds that surrounded her home, where she took great pleasure in planting and nurturing blooms that flourished under her care. Holidays were made extra special by the traditional treats she lovingly prepared—her poppyroll and cinnamon buns were favorites among family and friends.
As the years went by, Olga also worked part-time in Melville and later embraced semi-retirement alongside Gus on a small acreage carved from the original family farm. There, the couple continued to garden together and shared the fruits of their labor at the Yorkton Farmer’s Market. In 2003, Olga and Gus moved to Yorkton to be closer to loved ones, where they remained deeply connected to their family and community.
Olga faced life’s challenges with determination and resolve, bravely living with heart disease, severe osteoporosis, and later Alzheimer’s. She leaves behind a legacy of resilience, warmth, and devotion.
Olga will be lovingly remembered by her children: Don, Debra, and Roger; her cherished grandchildren: Verdella, Cindy, Vern, Chantel, Clayton, Melony, Linton, Travis, Terren, Jason, and Kaitlyn; and her siblings Helen and Tony and numerous great grandchildren. She is reunited in peace with her loving husband of 70 years, Gus; her parents, John and Annie; her siblings Frank, Pete, Carl, and Nellie; and her eldest son, Ron.
Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home and Cremation Care.
