Emily was born near the small community of Hilbre, Manitoba on January 4, 1931 to Hnat and Paraska (Bilous) Kachor, the youngest of ten children. She attended the one room school at Hilbre for grades 1 to 8, took 9 and 10 by correspondence and completed high school at Gordon Bell High in Winnipeg. After graduation in 1948, she started work at the Manitoba Co-operative Wholesale office, where she met the love of her life Ian “Roy”. They were married on November 25, 1950 in Winnipeg.

In February 1952, they moved to Yorkton where she worked in the Hudson Bay store office until she became a stay-at-home Mom in late 1953. In April 1960, they moved to Moosomin, where Roy started his own Public Accounting practice. She was able to assist him when the children were in school. Outside activities were limited but she did belong to the Kinettes and served as the president for one term.

Another move was made to Melville in 1966 when Roy was given the opportunity to join the firm of Parker, Quine & Co., where he worked full time and also studied towards his CA designation. This undertaking demanded a lot of her time and attention to the family of four, but it was done willingly knowing there would be rewards for a better future for the family. As the children got older, she was able to expand her horizons and joined the Church choir, taught Sunday School, belonged to the “Harmony Unit” of UCW, and was secretary-treasurer for Melville’s Donor’s Choice for many years. For recreation, she bowled, golfed and played bridge.

In 1987, Roy and Emily moved to Humboldt with the hope of Roy ‘slowing down’ and retiring there. She quickly became involved in many activities. The first was a membership in the Golf Club where she enjoyed 22 wonderful years with friends and also got 2 holes-in-one. Winter months were filled with bowling, several bridge clubs, as well as being a member of the UCW, Hospital Auxiliary, Villa Memorial Service Group, Church choir and volunteering at the Good Neighbor Store (like Melville’s Thrift Shop store).

She had many enjoyable trips. First to Cancun with daughter Patti, then with friends to Dominican Republic, Cuba, Western Caribbean and Alaskan cruises and to St. John’s Newfoundland when her son, Doug, was living there. Her last trip was to Las Vegas with Bev and her husband Larry.

She liked reading and doing crossword puzzles. Her cross-stitching created a framed picture for every member of the family, plus a few friends.

She enjoyed spending time with family on holidays, special occasions, and weekends. She was proud of her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments, whether scholastic, sports or profession.

In 2022, as Emily was “starting to feel her age”, she made a final move back to Melville to be closer to family as daughter Bev was still there. She moved into Caleb (now Cumberland Villa) and enjoyed exactly 2 years in her condo suite. She made and rekindled a few friendships there and did not want to leave.  She moved into St. Paul Lutheran Home in the spring of 2024. She developed strong bonds with many of her caregivers, as they truly do care for the residents in their charge.

On July 1, family was called and while they were with her, she breathed her last. No more pain, at peace, and going Home to the Lord and her long-awaited reunion with husband Roy.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son DOUGLAS, of Red Deer, Alberta, daughters BEVERLEY (Larry) Kreklewich of Melville, family Leland (Tiffany Poage) of Saskatoon, Brittany (Curtis) Doehl of Pilot Butte; PATRICIA (Victor) Simoneau of Olds, Alberta, family Walker (fiancée Brieann MacKenzie) of Calgary, Kimberley of Claresholm, Alberta; PAMELA Pifko (Howard Matthews) of Regina, family Garret (Stephanie Fuchs) of Halifax, NS, Justin (fiancée Erica Seebach) of Brandon, Man., sisters-in-law Lenore Kachor-Abell and Joan (Harry) Stellmach all of Calgary. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a very dear best friend, Shirley Armstrong.

Emily is predeceased by her husband Roy in 1999, her parents Hnat and Paraska Kachor, her siblings Mary, Bill (Flora), John, Anne (Norm), Jean (Albert), Joseph (Marie), Catherine, Ruth (Ed) and Peter, her mother and father-in-law Winifred and Reginald Kemp, as well as several nephews and nieces.
