Obituary of Doreen Waterhouse
The family of Doreen Waterhouse of Yorkton and formerly of Saltcoats, sadly announce her passing on August 10, 2025. Doreen was 71 years of age.
Doreen was born on April 7, 1954 at Saltcoats, to Harry and Ellen Waterhouse. The first years of her childhood were spent at the farm in the Boakeview District. Her father passed in 1960 and a few years later Doreen and her mom relocated to Rhein, where they owned and operated a poultry farm. When this opportunity of business ended, Doreen and her mom moved to Saltcoats.
Doreen lived at home, spending a brief time in a group home in Yorkton, later returning to her mom’s care. Doreen worked at the Yorkton Abilities Centre in the pottery department, sanding items to be painted, glazed and sold as a source of income for the center.
After her mom passed away in 1981, Doreen remained in the house. She was an amazing gardener and enjoyed sharing her bounty with friends. Her freezer was filled with assorted vegetables and lots of apple juice made from her tree. Doreen managed her house and day to day living with the guidance of her family and community.
Later, Doreen moved into a senior unit where she could still garden and enjoy the socializing at the town curling rink. In 2009, she became a permanent resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home where she resided until her passing. Her family will be forever grateful for Doreen’s care, activities and friendships. Doreen passed as a grateful, happy soul.
Doreen is survived by her sisters, Jennie Smith and Elaine (Mike) Hegedus, sister-in-law Audrey Waterhouse, nephews, Harry (Jackie) and Mike (Samantha), nieces, Elaine (Perry), Karen and Kim (JR). She is predeceased by her parents Harry and Ellen Waterhouse, brother Tom, brother- in-law Alex, nephew Kevin and niece Nicole.
A Graveside Service was held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from the Saltcoats Town Cemetery with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. The casket bearers were Harry Smith, Calvin Smith, Lee Janett, Cole Janett, JR Gollyhorn and Mike Hegedus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Doreen may be made to the Yorkton and District Nursing Home – Country Meadow Activity Department.
