Obituary of Steve Ryczak
Steve Ryczak passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5 at his home at the Gateway Lodge in Canora, Saskatchewan.
Steve was born on October 30, 1937 in Buchanan, Saskatchewan to parents John and Mary Ryczak. He was one of five brothers.
Steve grew up on the family farm, then went on to Teacher’s College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He taught school in Vauxhall, Alberta as well as Sturgis and Churchbridge, Saskatchewan. In addition to his career as a teacher, he spent a brief period in the military in Vernon, British Columbia, he farmed for several years near Springside, Saskatchewan, and held various labour positions in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Steve was blessed with a remarkable gift—his deep love and passion for music. Through the melodies of his violin and guitar, he touched countless lives over the years. His music remained a constant in his life, and he continued to play both instruments faithfully until his passing.
In addition to his passion for making music, Steve enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He cherished socializing with friends and family, but above all, he treasured the moments shared with his sons, Bob and Terry, whom he loved very much.
Our sincere gratitude goes to the staff at the Canora Gateway Lodge, where dad made his home for the last nine years. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Steve's Life was held on Friday, August 15, 2025 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey officiating. Special music was played by Stan Popowich and Rodney Flunder. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane, Yorkton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Steve may be made to the Canora Gateway Lodge as gifts of remembrance.
