Cathy Zawatsky

Obituary of Cathy Zawatsky

It is with love and sadness we announce the passing of Cathy Zawatsky on August 16, 2025 at the age of 77. She will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mom, nana, sister, aunt and friend whose warmth and kindness will forever fill our hearts.

Cathy had a heart full of love, a spirit of resilience and strength. She was the heart of our home and our family.

She will be lovingly missed by her devoted husband Clarie; their three children Edward (Christine), Lisa (Ken) and Douglas (Jamie); her 8 grandchildren Christoph, Hunter, Alec, Hannah, Jarvis, Hayley, Jersey (Kenny) and Jye; 1 great grandchild Navy. She will also be mourned by her siblings Don, Russell and Anastasia. Along with many in-laws; Mike, Taras, Roman, David, Stella, Sharon, Ellen, Olga and Debbie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her mother, Annie Sych (nee Pasieka); father, Wasyl Sych; mother in law Annie Zawatsky (nee Tuz); father in law Joseph Zawatsky; siblings Olga, Sylvia, Irene, Peter and Orest; and numerous in-laws.

Cathy was born in Kamsack on December 4, 1947 and raised on a farm north of Pelly with her parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Later she moved to Arran where she completed her education. In 1965, she worked at the TD bank in Rossburn. On August 13,1966, she married her best friend and moved to Langenburg, Saskatchewan. Cathy began work for Morris Sideman until her children were born. During her years at home with her children she babysat for many families and sold Amway and Avon. In 1986, she began working at the Langenburg Union Hospital and later moved to the Centennial Special Care Home where she continued her work for over 35 years. This is where she found her true passion. She was an incredibly hard worker. She devoted her time in the kitchen, housekeeping and laundry. Cathy was a huge presence in the care home; she went above and beyond her duties. She tended to the garden, made countless deserts and at Christmas she excelled at decorating and enjoyed to play Mrs. Claus.

Cathy was actively involved in countless community activities with her children: hockey, figure skating, rink cafeteria, brownies, school events, swimming pool and baseball.

Cathy had a passion for gardening and found great joy in tending to her yard. She was a skilled cook, baker, sewer and decorator. Cathy’s talents extended into many people’s lives as she catered many weddings/ anniversaries and made the most beautiful decorated cakes and the most delicious deserts. Her pierogis are legendary!

Her home was always open to family and friends, who were always welcomed for coffee and goodies. Her kindness and generous heart knew no bounds. She was a “gem of the precious kind.”

Family meant everything to Cathy. Her proudest and most cherished role was being “Nana” to her 8 grandchildren who were her greatest pride and joy. She was their biggest cheerleader. On July 9, 2025, Nana joyously welcomed her first great grand baby with great pride and immense love.

Cathy was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October of 2024. She was loved by many and spent her last moments with friends and family by her side. Her spirit and soul would’ve fought forever, but her body couldn’t fight any longer. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff of the Langenburg Homecare and Palliative Program.

Though today we grieve her absence, we also hold gratitude for the gift of her life. She has left behind not only memories, but also a legacy of love that will never fade. Thank you mom, for being the brightest light in our lives.

Rest in peace - we will love and miss you forever.
