Obituary of Marlene Boczulak
The family of Marlene Joan Boczulak (nee Kaufhold) sadly announce her passing on August 26, 2025 at the age of 86.
Marlene (along with her twin sister Darlene) were born June 25, 1939 in Kelliher to Peter Kaufhold and Annie Sikorski. They were the youngest of 11 children and lived on an acreage on the east side of Kelliher. They attended Kelliher school. After grade 12, Marlene worked at a local grocery store.
On July 12, 1958 Marlene married William Boczulak and they began their life together on the farm northwest of Ituna. They raised livestock, poultry and grew grain crops.
In November 1959, their first son Wayne was born. Soon after a daughter Ann, followed by two more sons, William and Paul. Marlene’s life was now devoted to raising and caring for her family.
In 1974, a new house was built, along with a newly landscaped yard and shelter belt. Marlene spent many hours planting and caring for the trees and grass along with growing a large garden.
Home cooking and baking was one of Marlene’s specialties. New garden potatoes, vegetables and farm raised fried chicken were a staple food in the summer months. Her siblings and their families would enjoy summer visits to the farm. As the children grew older, Marlene took interest in her passion of flowers. It started with a heart shaped rock garden filled with flowers and then grew from there.
In 1995, her husband William passed away. She stayed on the farm for two more years then moved into the house in Ituna. There she continued to live independently, growing a large garden and her passion for flowers. She also cooked and baked a lot. She especially loved treating her grandchildren who she loved so very much with perogies, cabbage rolls, borscht and cinnamon buns which the grandchildren truly enjoyed over the years.
Marlene’s health took a turn in the fall of 2024. She was no longer able to live on her own. She then moved to a care home in Moose Jaw. In the beginning of August, her health took another turn and she was admitted into hospital and passed away August 26, 2025.
Marlene is survived by her children; Wayne (Alison) and their children Abbey (Keenan), Cassidy, Jeremy and Jenna; Ann and her son Brett (Duncan); William and his son Connor; Paul (Lori) and their sons Riley (Brittany) and Lyndon. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband William, her brothers Walter, Frank and Joe, her sisters Sophie, Julie, Rose, Kay, Mary and Margaret, her grandson Devin and son in law Brian Wilson.
Marlene had a strong faith in God. She enjoyed Sunday liturgies and feast days, with the blessings of water, candles, seeds, fruits and flowers. She would light up her blessed candle for God’s blessings and protection for herself and her family.
