Obituary of Mike Oystreck
Mike Oystreck was born at Rhein, SK on May 17,1944 to Tom and Martha (nee Achtemichuk) Oystreck. Mike grew up on the family farm outside of Rhein with him and his 6 siblings. He attended Viome school to grade 8 at which time he quit to help full time at the family farm.
Later Mike got a job as a surveyor and moved into a basement rental suite at Peter and Mary Homenchuk’s home in Yorkton, SK. This is where he met his one true love, Diane Homenchuk. Mike and Diane married June 10, 1967 and were blessed with 3 daughters Donna (1970), Sherry (1972) and Karen (1977). The family later moved to Rhein where Mike started his grain elevator career with UGG and ending at P&H. In 1980, Mike and Cliff started C&M Chemical and O&H Fertilizer and expanded to 5 locations before shutting down the business and dad staying on with Mid Sask Ag until his retirement.
After retirement, he always looked forward to spring and fall to help Liebrecht Farms and Grant Pister, he would always be an hour early with his lunch packed and ready for a long day in the field. Mike loved hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake, playing cards, visiting with family and friends, but above everything else loved anything that involved his grandchildren.
Mike was predeceased by his wife of 53 years Diane, his parents Tom and Martha Oystreck, mother and father-in-law Peter and Mary Homenchuk, brother and sisters-in-law Edward Oystreck, Metro Oystreck, Bruce and Mary Allen, Lorne and Janice Krochak, Effie Oystreck and Don Homenchuk. Mike is survived by his children: Donna (Willie) Neumann, Sherry (Dallas) Harrison, and Karen (Randy) Blayone; six grandchildren: Riley (Teagan), Tyson, Brody, Brandy (Dwayne), Marli (Jon), Staci and five great grandchildren: William, JJ, Hunter, Wilder and Hallie. Also a sister Lorraine Rudnisky and sisters-in-law Helen Oystreck, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his many other relatives and friends.
The Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey officiating. Words of remembrance were shared by Mike's daughters, Donna, Sherry and Karen. The interment followed in the Trinity Columbarium, Garden of Memories, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Riley Neumann, Tyson Neumann and Brody Harrison serving as urn bearers.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan as gifts of remembrance.
