Katherine Anne Pottle was born on July 6, 1940 and died on September 16, 2025. She was fondly referred to as ‘Kathleen’ by her siblings and ‘Kathy’ by her many family members and friends. Kathy was the eldest child born to Kost Joseph ‘Joe’ and Annie German at the Endeavour Red Cross Hospital. She welcomed six younger siblings: Walter, Betty, Jerry, Carol, Dennis, and Diana. Their family lived on a farm East of Lady Lake. Kathy attended Sunnybrae School, Grades 1 to 8 and completed her Grade 10 in Sturgis. In 1957, she was employed by a local family before moving to Regina for two years of employment. During this time a courtship started with Kathy and Ray and she returned to Lady Lake. Imagine Ray’s surprise, when he travelled to Lady Lake to pick her up for a date and neither Kathy nor the German family home was there. Joe and Annie had relocated their home along the river in the village of Lady Lake. We are thankful that Ray was not deterred and that their romance continued. Kathy married Raymond Bernard Pottle on October 16, 1959 in the United Church in Preeceville. Their first home was located on a farm near Endeavor. They then moved into the community of Endeavour and began their family with the arrival of Larry in 1960 and Brian in 1962. They moved to Prairie River when Ray became an elevator agent for Searle Grain Company. Glenn born in 1966 completed their family. Kathy and Ray and their young family moved to Lintlaw in 1970 as a transfer with Searle Grain Company, later to be purchased by Federal Grain and Sask Wheat Pool. While living in Lintlaw, Kathy played competitively with the Lintlaw Lionettes fastball team and she curled. She was employed at the Lintlaw Hotel for many years. In 1982, Kathy, Ray, and Glenn moved to Star City as a transfer with Sask Wheat Pool. During this time golfing and camping at Marean Lake kept them busy. They purchased their retirement home in Sturgis in 1998. Kathy, Ray, and their boys loved fishing in summer and winter and most of all, valued spending time together big game hunting. They enjoyed hunting in the bush by McBride Lake. Kathy walked the trails and made sure that hungry hunters were all well fed. She loved the sausage making with the family and listened as hunting stories were retold many times. Kathy's “language of love” was preparing and feeding everyone her delicious food. Kathy and Ray’s most loved food was their perogies. Many people knocked on their door to purchase bags of their perogies. Family members had ongoing supplies of perogies to enjoy. Since their move to Sturgis in 1998, together they made 58,276 dozen perogies which is 699,312 perogies pinched! They have used over 700 bags of flour. We will all certainly miss their delicious perogies. Kathy was a feisty, strong, and resilient woman with a great sense of humor. She was skilled to make the most of what she and her family had. She spoke her mind openly and honestly. Kathy and Ray instilled a strong work ethic in their sons and also taught them the values of playing sports and having fun. Their family time involved a variety of activities: gardening, cooking fishing, hunting, and the love of playing card games. Kathy loved family gatherings and looked forward to attending Pottle family reunions since the 1960s, celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. Of course, all of these family gatherings involved her love of preparing food to ensure that all were well fed. Kathy took great care of all her family members, especially her husband Ray. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were lovingly sent home with treats, jars of canning and vegetables from a successful garden harvest.
Kathy was predeceased by her parents, Kost Joseph (1976) and Annie German (2006); mother-in-law Victoria (1951) and father-in-law Steven Pottle (1989); son Brian (Sept 2024); youngest siblings Dennis (2021) and Diana (Sept 2024); brothers-in-law Harold Anaka (2023) and Alvin Cote (1999); and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews from the Pottle family. Kathy is survived by her husband Ray (one month before their 66th wedding anniversary); her son Larry and his wife Heather, their children and grandchildren, Bradly and Amanda, Zander, Mia, Emery; Jennifer, Korsen and Daysha, Callum; their daughter-in-law, Valerie and children, Graham and Maia, Andrea and James; her son Glenn and his wife, Debbie and their children and grandchildren, Jordan and Carlyn, Decker, Cabela and Titan; Jessica and Ray-Al and Arrow; siblings, Walter and Gwen German, Betty and Daryl Lockwood, Jerry and Betty German, Carol Anaka, Peggy Gizen and many of Ray's siblings and their spouses and countless nieces and nephews and cousins who were very special to Kathy. Her legacy will continue with sharing our stories and memories.
