Obituary of Violet Matychuk-Mundt
MATYCHUK-MUNDT – The family of Violet Matychuk-Mundt sadly announce her passing on Monday, September 22, 2025 at the Golden Links Lodge in Winnipeg, MB, with her family by her side. She was 98 years of age. Violet was born in Crestview, Manitoba on November 27, 1926. After attending and meeting Frank George Matychuk at the Crestview School, they married in 1947, in Swan River, Manitoba. In 1950, they moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan, then later adopted their son David in 1958. Violet worked the floors at the Bay and Zellers, then at Gifts of Gold, Franks’ joint business venture. She also worked at Frank’s final solo watch repair shop till retirement. Violet was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother, sacrificing her time and energy at all times. Over the years Violet was very active in the community, volunteering for the United Church the most but also with the Legion Ladies. Music has always been a part of Violet’s life. With Frank they had music throughout their life and later would go on to play music on the piano for senior home residents, then for the residents of the home she was in, the Golden Links Lodge. Everyone loved her. Violet and Frank formed a band called the Good Timers, then joined The Old Time Fiddlers, playing dances and entertaining. Violet spent her time playing different venues, with many different musicians, but her favourite to play with was her best friend, Sandra Rudoski. Through the years Violet spent all her time caring for her family, volunteering, playing music, and sewing and quilting. After Frank passed Violet remarried to Otto Mundt, whom she also survived. In 2009, Violet moved to Winnipeg to be with her family, David, Samantha and Christopher. She moved into a brand-new complex, the Seine River Retirement community. She had many friends and enjoyed a good life. Violet was predeceased by her mother Hilda Murray (Graham) and father Alex Murray from Langley, BC, husband Frank Matychuk from Yorkton, and husband Otto Mundt from Yorkton. Violet leaves to cherish her memory and to celebrate her life son David and his wife Samantha (Pohl) Matychuk along with her grandson Christopher Matychuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Brother Gordon Murray and wife Alice Murray (sister-in-law) of Merrit, B.C. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, October 3, 2025, from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Jen Dresser of St. Andrew’s United Church officiating. Sandra Rudoski shared remembrances and recollections. Sandra Rudoski and Ron Rudoski performed ‘I Want to Stroll Over Heaven with You’. The interment followed in the Garden of Memories, Yorkton Memorial Gardens, with Dave Matychuk serving as urn bearer.
