Obituary of Nettie Bodnarik
The family of Nettie Bodnarik, formerly of the Stornoway district, beloved wife of the late Jacob Bodnarik sadly announce her passing on September 28, 2025. Nettie was 95 years of age.
Nettie was born August 15, 1930. She was raised on a farm 2 1/2 miles north of Stornoway. She also attended school in Stornoway. Nettie did leave home and ventured out in to the work force for a few years.
Nettie met and married Jake on March 5, 1951. They lived on Jake's family farm 5 1/2 miles north of Stornoway. They were blessed with three children Howard, Patsy and Sidney.
Nettie became a member of the Red Cross. She looked forward to attending and participating and especially enjoyed the socializing involved in this organization.
Nettie also enjoyed curling. She became very competitive and bonspieling became one of her favorite activities.
Nettie and Jake enjoyed playing cards whether it was two handed rummy or inviting neighbours, family or friends over for a card party. Friday afternoons were reserved for bingo at the senior’s center in Kamsack. Nettie enjoyed gardening. She was very proud of her geraniums and her garden.
Shortly after Jake passed away, Nettie moved to Yorkton to reside at Fairview Arms. She lived there from 2012-2021 when her health made it difficult to live alone. She then spent her remaining years at the Preeceville & District Nursing Home.
Family was important to Nettie. She looked forward to visiting and looking after her children and her grandchildren. They were the highlight of her life.
Nettie is survived by her three children; Howard (Heather), Patsy Despins and granddaughter Robyn (Bryan Gray), Sidney (Stacey) grandchildren; Mitchell and great grandchild Blake, Holly (Chad Ross) and great grand children Avery and Kailer, Tanner (Luis Leiva), Scott (Caelan), brothers Stan Zawada (Janet) and Norman Zawada (Leslie) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nettie is predeceased by her parents Peter and Mary Zawada, her husband Jake, sisters Kay Saplywy, Stella (Bob Kush), Irene (George) Babinchuk, brother John Zawada, brother in law Mike and daughter in law Cheryl.
The Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 6, 2025 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating.The eulogy was delivered by Granddaughter Holly Ross. The interment followed in the Garden of St. Luke, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Mitchell Bodnarik, Scott Bodnarik, Chad Ross, Keanen Gynp, Riley Neamann and Tyson Neumann serving as casket bearers.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross as gifts of remembrance.
