Obituary of Pauline Yaschuk
The family of Pauline Yaschuk of Yorkton, beloved wife of the late Ernest Yaschuk, sadly announce her passing on October 19, 2025.
Pauline May Yaschuk (nee Kitzul) was born on October 10, 1937. She completed her public school at the Edmore School and completed her high school in Foam Lake, Sask. On August 19, 1953, she left Foam Lake and went for training at the Mental Health Centre in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. She also took her Registered Nurse training at Neepawa, Manitoba and graduated from both programs on May 19, 1957, in which her parents and Ernest attended.
Prior to her move to Portage La Prairie she met Ernest Yaschuk. In 1957, Ernest and Pauline became engaged and moved to Toronto where she stayed with her friends Effie and Pete Dorosh and Ernie lived with his sister Eva Charanduk and her husband. Pauline worked at Michael’s Hospital, Princess Margaret and Our Lady of Mercy Hospital where she could walk to work. Ernest and Pauline came home to get married at the Foam Lake Orthodox Church.
Following the closure of Avro Arrow (17,000 men were laid off) and with the guidance of her parents and husband, Ernest and Pauline bought the Pendlebury farm, (which consisted of 22 quarters of land), 6 miles south of Tuffnell and two miles west. Pauline also worked at the Foam Lake Hospital. Beverly Gail was born on October 4, 1961, Carla Marlene on November 19, 1962, their son Darryn, who passed away right after he was born on July 25, 1965 and Tannis Gaylene was born on July 4, 1968. They all got married, Beverly in Yorkton, Carla in Sherwood Park and Tannis in Edmonton.
Good dependable hired men were hard to get, so they sold their farm at Tuffnell and moved to Yorkton and built their first home on the outskirts of town, about one mile west of Yorkton in Pleasant Heights. Pauline worked on the Pine Unit for 28 years, until her retirement. Following Ernie’s retirement, they sold their home and purchased a home on Russell Drive. Pauline was instrumental in assisting Henry Bouregard of Regina to gain reciprocity between the three Western Provinces, Man., Sask., and Alberta and upon moving nurses, did not have to write their exams in the three provinces. She also belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi and the Psychiatric Centre girls meet once a month at Manos.
Pauline always commented that their neighborhood was filled with friendships, not just neighbors. Ernest passed away on November 19, 2015. Pauline resided in her home on Russell Drive until her passing on October 19, 2025.
Pauline is predeceased by her husband Ernie, her son Darryn, her parents John and Dora Kitzul, her sister Virginia (Johnnie) Kreklevich and many family and friends. She will be lovingly missed by her daughters; Bev (Thomas); Carla (Mick) and her children Tyler (Teresa) great grandchildren Parker and Robyn and Bradon (Hanne) great grandchild Henrik; Tannis (Stefan) and her children Brandon (Allie) and Brielle (Andrew); her sister Marrian (Ron) Bezo as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
