Joanne has been an unforgettable presence in my life. A quiet presence that would provide comfort when needed and also provide direction to me when she thought I needed it. Over the years, she joined us for trips, held my wedding shower, brought us endless homemade delights and has clearly explained how Watkins had the best cinnamon and vanilla in the world. She shared her garden produce, offered us a place to stay and shared time at her cottage.
Although we live out of province, somehow she would always be there when I needed her most. She comforted us when illness struck. She was with me when I chose flowers of my father's funeral, came to help me pack after my mother passed (even though she had to take extra pain pills to do so} and kept her promise to my mother to look out for us.
Although, Joanne was a very private individual, over the years we developed a rich friendship that allowed us to share almost anything. Somehow we could have long telephone conversations about nothing and they would almost always finish with laughter. She seemed to let her guard down when with us and just have fun. Sometime I heard "maybe a little will not hurt".
The sudden news of her passing is difficult to believe. We all loved her dearly. God Bless.
