Obituary of Barry Holstein
After a short but courageous battle with cancer we are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Barry Herman Benjamin Holstein, age 70, of Yorkton, Saskatchewan on Saturday October 25th, 2025.
Barry was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on August 13th, 1955 to Benjamin and Lorraine (nee Starger) Holstein. Barry is the eldest of 6 siblings and grew up on a farm near Saltcoats until the family relocated to their farm south of Yorkton. Barry attended grades 1 and 2 at the Fairview School after which he attended Simpson School and later The Composite.
Barry had many different hats throughout his working career. He started cutting grass in the surrounding Rural Municipalities with his dad, Ben. He spent 27 years at Morris Industries in Maintenance, where he met many lifelong friends. After retirement, Barry was always busy and found a new love for custom combining. Everyone who knew Barry, knew he was a master of all crafts and had an uncanny talent of being able to fix anything and everything, he was the person you would call and he would be always willing to lend a hand. If you didn’t find Barry fixing something or combining, he would likely be found in his skid-steer lending a helping hand.
Barry lived a life defined by kindness and unwavering love, making him the absolute heart of his family. As a husband, his devotion was a constant, steady source of support and affection that enriched every shared day. As a father, he provided a loving and strong foundation, always there with wisdom, a helping hand, and an infectious laugh. But perhaps his greatest joy was being a grandfather, where his gentle spirit shone brightest, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations. His generous heart and loving presence will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Barry is predeceased by his dad, Ben; nephew, David; as well as in-law's, John and Dora. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife of 16 years, Marilyn; daughters Joanne and Vanessa (Jason) Sweezey and step-daughter; Cathryn (Rob) Hayes. His cherished grandchildren, Riley and Emily Sweezey; Olivia, Everleigh and William Hayes. His mother, Lorraine; his siblings; Dale (Sherry), Delilah (Albert) Hartmier, Allen, Helen and Lorelie (Scott) Robertson; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
