Agnes Marie (McLean) Hall—known as Marie to everyone who loved her—passed away peacefully in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on November 11, 2025, at the remarkable age of 95. Her long and interesting life began on March 25, 1930, on her family’s farm near Ellisboro, Sask, where she grew up rooted in the values of hard work, integrity and connection that she carried with her all her days.
She is reunited in peace with her beloved husband of 54 years, Mervin Russell Hall, as well as her sister Margaret Westberg, brothers-in-law Harold Westberg, Clive Matthew, Walter Betker, Ernie Hutchinson and Ken Hall, her sisters-in-law Doreen Matthew and Evelyn Hall and her niece Anne Hutchinson and nephew Steven Westberg.
Marie leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply. She is survived by her sisters, Verna Betker and Doreen Hutchinson; her daughters, Deborah (Gary Gullaher) and Barbara (Glenn Lang); her grandchildren Erin, Ashley, Elizabeth, Jamie, Ryan, Charmaine, and Logan; and nine great-grandchildren. Her family and friends were very important to her and Marie cherished every visit, phone call, and note.
Marie and Mervin were married in Calgary on April 27, 1957, beginning a lifetime of adventure side by side. Together they built M.R. Hall Drilling Ltd., a successful water well drilling company, and later spent several years consulting on groundwater projects in places as far away as Ghana, Africa—an experience they remembered fondly throughout their lives. After returning to Canada in 1975, they settled in Fort Qu’Appelle, where they ran a retail business for nearly two decades. When they eventually retired, they embraced a quieter life on the lake and at their condo in Regina, creating memories with visiting family and friends. Many will forever remember the good times shared at the “cottage” on the lake.
Marie found joy in the simple and meaningful things: gardening, reading a good book, visits from her family and friends across Canada. She enjoyed following the financial markets and was the family historian—passionate about documenting the family tree and history, and always ready with a story or memory that brought the past to life. Her loyalty, kindness, resilience and steady wisdom will be greatly missed.
Marie lived a life rich in love, purpose, and connection. She will be fondly remembered, and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
