Linda Herron

Obituary of Linda Herron

On November 11, 2025, Linda Jean Herron (née Murray) passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre in Airdrie, AB, surrounded by her loved ones. She faced her final years with the same grace, kindness, and quiet strength that defined her throughout her life.

Born on June 21, 1948, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Linda was the daughter of James and Elva Murray. She grew up on the family farm alongside her siblings George, Beth, and Heather, attending school in the Chatsworth district and later Saltcoats. Her prairie upbringing instilled in her the enduring values of compassion, humility, generosity, and devotion to family.

On December 20, 1969, Linda married the love of her life, Gordon Herron, and together they built their home in Yorkton. During these years, she worked in several roles, including as a preschool teacher and a clerk at the Yorkton Credit Union, where she formed many treasured friendships while raising her family.

In 1989, Linda and Gordon moved to Nanaimo, British Columbia, where she continued her life of service as a social worker until her retirement. After Gordon’s passing in 2007, she remained in Nanaimo until 2022, when she moved to Airdrie, AB, to be closer to her daughter Rhonda and her family.

Linda leaves behind her daughter Rhonda (Shawn) Bymoen of Airdrie, AB; her son Kelly (Stacey) Herron of Vancouver, BC; her four beloved granddaughters, Caylin (Lyndin), Alysa (Eddie), Peyton, and Sloane; and one special great-grandson Lowen, who brought her endless joy. She is also survived by her siblings George (Laurie) Murray of Saltcoats; Beth Murray of Yorkton; and Heather (John) Dwyer of Yellow Point, BC; Brother -in -law & sister-in-law Orville & Marilyn Herron of Saltcoats, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, her parents James and Elva Murray, and her in-laws Audrey (Topsy) and Samuel Herron and sister-in-law, Edith Taylor.

Linda will be remembered as a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was kind, thoughtful, and generous with her time and love. She cherished long walks, reading, camping with her family, evenings at the Yorkton movie theatre, travelling across Canada and abroad, attending stage shows and concerts, and returning to the family farm where so many of her happiest memories were rooted.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from the Saltcoats United Church with Rev. Walter Farquharson officiating. Organist Judith Hershmiller led the congregation in the hymns.
