Obituary of Viola Halabuza
Viola Halabuza was born in Melville, Saskatchewan on December 14, 1939, to Louis and Irene (Solomon) Nagy. She was raised on the family farm north of Melville. Viola attended elementary school at Look Out, Oak Hill and Melville, and high school at the Yorkton Collegiate. Following grade 12, she completed a business course.
On October 19, 1959, Viola married John Halabuza at St. Gerard’s Church in Yorkton. The couple was blessed with three sons, and Viola enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom for twelve years. Viola was employed as a bookkeeper for 10 years at Logan and Black before her children were born. When she returned to work, she was employed as an Employment Counsellor and Payroll Administrator until 1999 when she joined John in retirement.
Viola enjoyed many good times with friends, playing cards, having barbecues and celebrating birthdays. She loved to scrapbook, tending to her beautiful flowers and trees, cooking, baking, having coffee with friends, and volunteering for events at St. Gerard’s Hall. In later years, she delighted in attending her grandchildren’s activities. Viola loved to entertain and hosted many family gatherings through the years. Her favourite gatherings were Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Her family meant everything to her. Viola also enjoyed travelling, taking making trips throughout Canada, the USA, Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii, England, and several European countries.
Viola was predeceased by her parents, Irene and Louis Nagy, siblings, Howard Nagy, Mervin Nagy and Gladys Walsh, father and mother-in-law, John and Pauline Halabuza, sister-in-law Dorothy Nagy, and brothers-in-law Arthur Walsh, Dave Williams and Gerry Halabuza.
Viola is survived by her loving spouse John of 66 years and her cherished and loved children and grandchildren: sons Randy (Charlotte) of Estevan, Kevin (Helen) of Andover, England, and Trent of Regina; six grandchildren – Kade (Palima), Talys (Celise), Megan, Suzie, James and Juliette Halabuza, sisters-in-law Violet (Eldon) Haw, Delores (Graig) Friebe, Sharon Williams, JoAnne Grayson and Lee Nagy, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Viola leaves behind a legacy of love and lifelong memories that will forever be etched in our hearts.
The Funeral Mass was held on December 22, 2025 from St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church, Yorkton, SK. with Father Sathiadas Antony serving as celebrant. Accompanist Diana Hornung led the congregation in the hymns ‘On Eagle’s Wings’, ‘Precious Lord Take My Hand’, ‘I am the Bread of Life’, ‘Hail Mary, Gentle Woman’, and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Scriptures were read by Charlotte Halabuza and words of remembrance was shared by Trent Halabuza. James Halabuza served as Cross Bearer and Juliette Halabuza served as Gift Bearer. The interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Kade Halabuza, Talys Halabuza, Kevin Halabuza, Dwayne Nagy, Grant Nagy and Trevor Nagy serving as casket bearers.
Memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Saskatchewan Cancer Foundation.
Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey’s Funeral and Cremation Care.
