Obituary of Bernard Stadnyk
STADNYK - Bernard Lloyd Stadnyk, aged 76, of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the Yorkton Regional Health Center, surrounded by his family.
Born on August 23, 1949, in Foam Lake, Saskatchewan, to Steve and Anne Stadnyk, Bernard—known as Bernie to many—was raised on the family farm southwest of Sheho alongside his four siblings. The farm originally belonged to their grandparents. The family later relocated to Sheho and subsequently returned to Parkerview. Throughout his childhood, Bernie attended school in Krasny, Sheho, and Parkerview, eventually graduating from Foam Lake High School.
Following his graduation, Bernie entered the workforce, beginning with construction labor and later working for Service Master in Yorkton. During this period, he met Diane Lemchuk, whom he married in 1972. In 1973, the couple moved to Saskatoon, where Bernie began his career in the insurance industry, and Diane worked at Saskatoon City Hospital. Their first son, Bernard Eugene, was born in 1974. Soon after, the family returned to Yorkton, where Bernie embarked on a distinguished 33-year tenure with SGI, retiring in 2007. Their second son, Sheldon Dean, was born in 1977; tragically, Sheldon passed away in 1981 at the age of four.
In 1985, Bernie and Diane sold their home in Yorkton and transitioned to living on an acreage, a lifestyle Bernie cherished deeply. His dedication to maintaining and improving their property was evident year-round.
Bernie held a long-standing passion for slo-pitch, often participating in games five nights a week and attending tournaments on weekends, with Diane frequently found in the stands. He also enjoyed outdoor pursuits such as hunting and fishing, especially alongside his son and granddaughter. Each fall, he would set aside the ball glove to focus on hunting whitetail deer.
Bernie and Diane remained on their acreage until his health required long-term care due to advancing dementia, which became increasingly challenging for Diane as she continued her own battle with cancer. Diane subsequently returned to Yorkton to be close to Bernie, allowing them to continue sharing daily visits and outings.
Bernie is survived by his son, Eugene Stadnyk (Frances), and grandchildren Deana, Steven, and Samuel, all of Yorkton; his brother Mervin (Linda); sisters Verlie, Emily, and Beverly (Ron), along with their families. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Diane Stadnyk, in 2023; his son Sheldon Stadnyk in 1981; and his parents, Steve and Anne.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, where Bernie resided for four years and received compassionate and dedicated care.
Prayers and Funeral Service were held at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Father Michael Faryna officiating. The cantor was Jason Kopan. Carmen Kingsbury served as the cross bearer. Son Eugene shared memories of his father. The interment followed in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Deana Stadnyk, Steven Stadnyk, Samuel Stadnyk, Jordan Harrick, Warren Appell and Jason Appell served as the casket bearers.
