Obituary of Ernie Sleeva
The family of Ernie Sleeva of Yorkton, beloved husband of Cecilia, sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. He was 83 years of age.
Ernie Sleeva, born October 22, 1942, in Canora, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.
A lifelong farmer, Ernie began working on the family farm at the young age of 14 and continued growing it for the next two generations. The early years were a mix of livestock and grain farming, while later years focused solely on grain.
Ernie loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, proudly supporting their dancing and hockey pursuits. One of Ernie and Cecilia’s proud accomplishments was building a new home and relocating to Yorkton in 2006, where Ernie then took on a lesser role on the family farm.
In his later years, he enjoyed watching television shows such as Coronation Street, Rust Valley Restorers, Life Below Zero, and various curling events. He also found joy in gardening, cooking, crop checking, and driving the gravel roads. While Ernie did not travel much outside of Canada, he logged many miles in his truck, checking crops and watching the spring water flow across the countryside.
Ernie’s sense of humour was appreciated by all who spent time with him. The simple joys he found in everyday life will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Antonina Sleeva, and his sister, Evelyn Zawislak.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Cecilia Sleeva; sons Sheldon (Brenda) Sleeva and Shawn (Jennifer) Sleeva; and daughter Renee (Rob) Boyd. He will be lovingly remembered by his cherished grandchildren, Ally, Clay, Kailey, Jayla, Ty, and Rylan, as well as by his nephews, nieces, cousins, and many friends.
A Family Memorial Service was held from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. Ally Sleeva and Clay Sleeva delivered the eulogy. The interment followed in the Garden of Memories, Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Ally Sleeva, Clay Sleeva, Kailey Sleeva, Jayla Boyd, Ty Sleeva, and Rylan Boyd serving as urn bearers.
Arrangements for Ernie Sleeva have been entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home and Cremation Care.
