Casper Haas

Obituary of Casper Haas

Casper Valentine Haas of Yorkton, formerly of Saltcoats, passed away peacefully with his family at his side, on January 1, 2026 at the Yorkton Union Hospital.  He was 91 years of age.

Casper was born on November 22, 1934 on the farm in the Perley District, RM of Saltcoats to Casper Sr and Anna Haas.  He attended the Perley District School.   As a young man he ventured to Edmonton, Alberta where he attended Vocational School and received his papers as a Heavy Duty Mechanic.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lois Audrey Neal on September 15, 1956.  Their union was blessed with six children.

Casper’s life revolved around farm and family.  Shortly after their marriage, Casper and Lois moved to Kelowna, B.C. where he worked as a mechanic.  However, within a year, the farm and prairie skies were calling them back and they returned to Saltcoats to farm with his parents.  Casper initially farmed Haas Brothers “Perley Farms” with his brother Roy.  In 1988 Casper’s youngest son Scott joined the operation.  Casper continued to provide support, guidance and a helping hand to Scott’s operation for almost 40 years.   While Casper was trained as mechanic, he was a jack of all trades and could ply his skills as a carpenter, plumber, electrician and even veterinarian.  He built their home on the farm and in 1982/83 built a home in Saltcoats where he and Lois lived from 1983 to 2014.  In 2015 they moved to a condo in Yorkton where he spent his remaining years.  While he semi-retired in Yorkton, he remained drawn to the farm and continued to spend much time helping Scott on the land, even climbing into the combine in the fall of 2024 at the age of 90.

Casper was involved with the Saltcoats Agricultural Society and also served on the Lakeside Manor Care Home Board representing the RM of Saltcoats.  He was a very generous donator to many charities.  While living on the farm, he loved attending dances with Lois, curling in the winter and fostered the love of sports, running children to various activities – hockey, curling, skating in the winter and baseball, softball and swimming lessons in the summer.

Casper and Lois travelled to Venezuela, Mexico and many states in the USA.  In earlier years of retirement, they enjoyed special times spending winters in Arizona with friends.  Casper was blessed with 17 grandchildren and delighted in his 19 great grandchildren in the last years of his life.  He never tired of attending every birthday party, sports event, concert, graduation or family get together.

Casper is survived by his incredible legacy of love and family.  Left to cherish his memory is  his wife of 69 years, Lois; their children Terry (Wally Pasloski), Bonnie (Verne Trowell), Bob Haas (Susan), Shannon (Ron Thiesen), Kim Thompson and his daughter in law Beth Haas; his grandchildren Sarah (Bryce) Kaitlyn (Chris), Chelsea (Jaret), Layne (Monique) Dylan (Brittany), Rylan, Brenan, Tyson, Jay (Sarah), Kyla (Kyle), Tyler (Morgan), Jenna (Derek), Jordan (Niki), Nathan, Hunter and Connor; and his great grandchildren Deklyn, Landyn, Emersyn, Rayna,Tristan, Andi, Theo, Jaylene, Rowan, Grayson, Nora, Ashlyn, Levi, Chloe, Beckett, Camryn, Maisy, Rylee and Freya.

Casper was predeceased by his parents Casper Sr and Anna Haas, his son Scott Haas, his grandchild Jeremy Haas and his great grandchild Mila Kuzek, his son in law Shane Thompson, his brother Roy Haas and his sister Eva Cooper.

Casper was the most amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbour.  He will be missed immensely by all who had the honor of knowing him.
