Lorne Procyshen

Obituary of Lorne Procyshen

Lawrence Uhan Procyshen (affectionately known as Lorne) was born August 22, 1938 in Canora, Saskatchewan, to father Tony Procyshen and mother Mary Procyshen (Kuruliak). He was the eldest of three children and grew up on the family farm near Donwell, Saskatchewan. Lorne attended and graduated from Canora Composite High School in 1957.

After completing grade 12 Lorne worked in Wawa, Ontario as a Lab Technician for 2 years. In 1960 he took a job at White Farm Equipment selling Cockshutt farm machinery until 1969.  On October 6, 1961, Lorne married the love of his life, Doreen Gayle Kowal of Willowbrook, Saskatchewan and would spend their lives together for the next 64 years.  Other employment for Lorne included Coca-Cola as sales manager from 1969 – 1970.  In 1973 Lorne joined Dowie’s Stationery and stayed for 25 years until retirement.  He was an accomplished salesman and travelled many communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba selling office furniture, office supplies, and cash registers.  He won an award for selling the most filing cabinets in Canada.  Post retirement work included McDonalds serving coffee to regular customers and Walmart as a greeter.

Lorne was very active outside of work and family being a board member of Yorkton Credit Union, a member of ACT/UCT Yorkton and Moose Jaw Councils, and most notably a board member of Lung Association of Saskatchewan where he received a lifetime achievement award for all his work advocating for sleep apnea.  He had many hobbies including golfing, curling, and fishing.  He enjoyed spending many hours doing craft work, scroll saw wood working, and lots of cooking like making bread, wine, canned fruit, all of which he loved to share with family, friends, and neighbours.  What people knew him most for though was his greatest talent of making music (dulcimer, guitar, drums).  Lorne played many weddings and dances everywhere across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.  In Edmonton, Alberta he recorded an album with The Country Lads, and was an accomplished musician with many other bands too like the Good Timers, Zabava, and most recently The Old Country Lads.  Lorne also enjoyed travelling and was fond of spending some winter months in Mesa, Arizona with friends old and new.  He would take bus trips to casinos to test his luck, some of which he hosted with his talent for telling jokes and connecting with people.

Lorne passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina on January 8, 2026.  He will lovingly be remembered by his family; wife Gayle Procyshen, son Trevor Procyshen and daughter-in-law Julie, his very special grandchildren Sidra and Barrett; his sisters Louise Pederson and Eunice Stefiuk, and their children Rob Pederson, Shalene Hackl (Wade), Kari-Lynn Pederson, and Vanessa Telfer (Jon); as well as his sister-in-law Karin Pekar (Larry) and nephews Randy Pekar and Greg Pekar (Lacey). Numerous great nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
