Emil was born on the family farm to Joseph and Anne (Daciw) Sebulski on May 1, 1932. He was a twin to Lovelean (Malinowski) and the fourteenth child of fifteen in the family.
In 1938, he started grade one at Fosti School which was his first introduction to speaking English. After completing his elementary education, he attended Sheho School from grade 10 to 12 where he graduated in 1951.There was a great shortage of teachers at this time and Emil was approached by a Superintendent to be a Study Supervisor teacher as a grade 12 graduate. He continued teaching for three years and then started at the Teachers College in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1955. Upon completion of teacher training he taught at country schools in Roblin, Manitoba and area. His summers were spent continuing his University classes. His interest in becoming an Industrial Arts teacher led him to receive his degree from the Bemedji State College, which entitled him to teach shop classes. He accepted a teaching position in Killarny, Manitoba, where he spent two years. He then moved to Roblin, where he spent 21 years teaching drafting, metal working, welding and small engines. He also taught driver education after school and evenings. He was interested in ceramics and offered evening classes to adults.
Emil would often come home to Sheho to visit and help out on the family farm during the weekends and the summer. During his teaching career, he traveled extensively to Disney World, Ukraine and the Holy Land, throughout Eastern and Western Canada and Mexico.
Emil retired from teaching in 1989. He moved to an acreage around Sheho. It didn’t take long before he got involved in community organizations and activities. He was a trustee for the Sheho area with the Shamrock School Division #38 for nine years and councilor of the Insinger R.M. #275 for twelve years. Emil spent countless hours with committees in organizing the 90th and 100th Anniversary of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church and the Sheho School Reunion, helping with organization and publication of history books.
Emil enjoyed many hobbies, which included different crafts, floral arrangements, ceramics, painting, gardening and growing a variety of flowers. He spent a lot of time in his green house and planting in the garden. He used to love celebrating Christmas and would set up his yard with a large Christmas light display. Many nights he would be found playing cards, calling bingo or making the rounds to visit friends and family. Emil appreciated being with family. He held family and Ukrainian traditions close.
