Obituary of Roxann Harris
It is with great sadness that the family of Roxann Shelley Harris (née Nagy) announces her sudden passing on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the age of 66 years.
Roxann was born on May 5, 1959, in Kipling, SK, to Martha (Daku) and Emil Nagy. Shortly after, her brother Myron was born, followed by Gerry, Darcy, Dean, and Derek. Roxann was raised by her parents on their farm in the Willowbrook (Otthon) area, and she helped where needed on the farm, attended Church most Sundays, and enjoyed time spent visiting relatives and neighbours.
She attended her elementary school years in Willowbrook, before venturing off to Yorkton Regional High School. After graduation, she moved to Saskatoon, where she attended Kelsey Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences.
She was deeply devoted and loved her career as a Registered Nurse at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. She made a lasting impression on those she cared for and worked alongside and was often described as one of the best and most wonderful nurses.
In 1984, Roxann and David were married in Yorkton. Their children were born in the years that followed, Lexi in 1985, Tianda in 1987, and “the twins,” Carson and Cameron, in 1989. Roxann loved being a mother, even though times were a bit chaotic having four children within four years. Roxann’s children recall their favorite memories of going to Kenosee Lake every summer, spending time at the beach and waterslides, bike riding, selling lemonade and popcorn outside of the cabin, watching movies, and listening to her favorite music.
Roxann took pride in her home on the acreage outside of Yorkton, where she loved gardening, canning, and planting flowers. She was a phenomenal cook and baker, with some of her children’s favourites being pumpkin pie, Christmas baking (scuffles, tarts, nanaimo bars), and traditional Hungarian dishes such as Paprikash chicken and cabbage rolls.
Like her mother Martha, Roxann was very proud to be Hungarian and visited the Bekevar Church near Kipling. She loved to decorate for the holidays including Halloween, a passion she was passed on to her children and grandchildren.
In 2011, Roxann’s first grandson, Kayden, was born, followed by her only granddaughter, Kallie, who she called her “favorite granddaughter”, in 2014. She was further blessed with two more grandsons, Henry in 2022 and Noah 2024. She loved the time she spent with her grandchildren, most recently flying to Victoria, BC, with Lexi, Kayden, and Kallie to visit Tianda (Trevor), Henry, and Noah.
During several trips to Victoria, she enjoyed going to The Butchart Gardens, Butterfly Gardens, seeing the ocean, whale watching, and making it to the top of the Malahat Skywalk. She also enjoyed trips to Banff, houseboating on Shuswap Lake, camping in the mountains (where she nearly got lost), and going to the Calgary Zoo. She enjoyed watching sports, including hockey, baseball, football, curling, and the Olympics. She especially loved Kayden's hockey and Kallie’s dance, seeing videos and pictures of Henry and Noah and hearing about their daily adventures. Roxann loved to listen to music and dance. She had the opportunity to attend many concerts over the years including Elton John, April Wine, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Meatloaf, and most recently, Lauryn Hill.
In 2021, Roxann’s sons, Carson and Cameron, helped her move to Calgary, which was her first time living in a “real” city. Although it was a change, she loved her home (right in downtown Calgary), her yard, and time with her dog Oliver. Roxann enjoyed her independence there, spending many hours planting flowers and propagating new plants which eventually took over her home. She also got the opportunity to be part of a neighbourhood, and had the best decorated house for Halloween and Christmas. Over the years, Roxann collected and gifted many special Christmas decorations to her children and grandchildren, including Nutcrackers, light up houses and villages. These were purchased at her favorite stores, Shoppers Drug Mart, Superstore, and Canadian Tire where she never passed up a good deal.
Roxann was admired for her sense of humor and smile, unique sense of style, including her beautiful red and purple hair which she often received compliments for. Roxann was one of the hardest workers and was fiercely proud of being a strong, independent woman who could do anything a man could do, and often better, as she liked to joke. She was an advocate for everyone, a true ally, endlessly kind and non-judgemental, the type of person who would stop to help someone on the side of the road without hesitation (which she did).
She will be remembered for giving the best advice and always telling her children and grandchildren how much she loved them “Love Mom/Grandma Harris XXOXX.”
Roxann is survived by her children, Lexi (Tyler) Burman, Tianda (Trevor) Dash, Carson Harris (Daniel), and Cameron (Parisa) Harris; along with her grandchildren, Kayden, Kallie, Henry, and Noah. Roxann is also survived by her brothers, Gerry (Diana) Nagy, Darcy (Carol) Nagy, and Derek Nagy; sister-in-law Lynn (Warren) Thomson, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Emil (1999) and Martha (2018) Nagy; brothers, Myron (1993) and Dean (1967).
A Private Service was held by the family on Saturday, December 20, 2025, where special memories were shared and some of her favorite music was played, including “Roxy Roller.”
An Interment Service will be held in the spring of 2026 at the Otthon Hungarian United Church Cemetery
