Carol (Beblow) Strocen

In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother

Carol (Beblow) Strocen was born in Yorkton, SK on January 20, 1943 to Metro and Pasanka (Polly/Pearl Chupa) Beblow. Carol grew up in Orcadia, SK as a middle child of six (Anne, Pauline, Paul, Jerry and James). She met her future husband of 57 years, Elgin Strocen, in grade school.  They got engaged on the night of Carol’s Grade 12 graduation, and after they obtained their Teaching Certificates from the Regina Teacher’s College they married on August 3, 1963 in Yorkton, SK.

Carol started her teaching career in Neidpath, SK at Luxor School and spent thirteen years in this small community near Swift Current. She and Elgin relocated back to Yorkton in 1975 to continue to engage, enlighten, and nourish children’s minds. While teaching and raising a young family she attended correspondence and night classes to gain her Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan in 1987. While Carol retired from teaching after a 32-year career in 1994, she kept active in the community and created lasting friendships as a Mary Kay Consultant and a Welcome Wagon Hostess.

When not busy with work or family, Carol enjoyed numerous hobbies.  Every year a garden was planted to provide fresh vegetables, and flowers were lovingly cared for to add beauty to her yard.  Carol enjoyed cooking for friends or family, with her large kitchen being the hub of many memorable events.  She spent numerous hours helping Elgin with woodworking and staining many of the cupboards and furniture crafted over the years.  Pioneer roots were never forgotten, and Carol proudly and heartily would fix, sew, stuff, pickle, can, freeze, or process anything that could be later used or consumed. In later years she enjoyed setting puzzles, reading, sudoku, and scrapbooking many of the family memories that are so cherished.

Carol will be remembered as a selfless wife, mother and grandmother who would always be there to support and offer encouragement when times were tough. Carol was never afraid of hard work and was quick to solve problems, whether through ingenuity or pure determination.  She never complained and always gave all of herself to ensure others were well cared for.

Carol is lovingly remembered by her daughter Michele Strocen; son Mitch (Taryn Bogdan) Strocen; grandchildren Olivia and Alexis Strocen, sister Anne and brothers Paul (Sylvia), Jerry (Shirley) and James (Iris) along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
