Erwin Fred Yunker

September 17, 1935 - January 27, 2026.

90 years Old

Erwin Fred Yunker passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at the Saltcoats Lakeside Manor Care Home surrounded by family.

Erwin was born on September 17, 1935 on the family homestead in the Inglis, MB area. Erwin was the third youngest child from a family of six girls and four sons born to Henry and Molly (Besler) Yunker. Erwin attended Asessipi school in his early yrs. After eight yrs the family moved to a farm north east of Churchbridge ( Beresina District) where he then attended Dressler School which was located on the Yunker land and completed grade 8.

At a young age Erwin left home to find work in Ontario. He found work in the construction industry and worked with his oldest brother Rudy. After a few years in Ontario Erwin decided to move back to the family farm and began farming with his Dad and brother Walter.

In 1981 Erwin married Sheila Arnold from Yorkton and continued to farm until their retirement in 2003. It was then, Erwin and Sheila moved into Langenburg but continued to go back and forth to the farm to tend to his yard and garden which both he took such pride in.

Anyone that knew Erwin knew how meticulous he was with anything he owned. Erwin was a self taught mechanic and handyman always making sure his equipment, vehicles, yard, and house remained in top notch shape. He believed in maintaining what he owned, fixing what could be fixed, and taking responsibility for his own equipment and tools never needing to hire anyone.

Erwin lived a simple, humble life, not of lack, but out of respect for his resources, his work, and the life he built. Erwin didn’t waste much, and he didn’t need much either. He understood the value of simplicity.

Erwin always enjoyed day trips travelling to Dauphin visiting family, Clear Lake, Asessipi , Yorkton and weekly trips to Russell.

When it came to family he always enjoyed attending events rarely missing a special event. No matter the occasion, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries he was there. Proud in his own way. Erwin loved to visit and enjoyed story telling with everyone in his presence.

Erwin will be deeply missed by all he was close to. His big smile and infectious laugh will be forever remembered. Erwin leaves behind a legacy of care, responsibility and quiet love. Not loud, not showy, but deep and lasting. We are all better for having him in our lives and will carry his example with us.

“To have known him was to love him and to love him was to have known him”.

Erwin was predeceased by his parents Henry and Molly Yunker in 1972. His brothers Rudy, Henry and Walter. His sisters Margaret, Kay, Joey and Mary.

Erwin leaves to cherish his memory by his wife of 44yrs Sheila, sisters Winnie Scherloski and Wilma, (Warren) Earnshaw, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and his special cat Fluffy.
