It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Jason after a lengthy illness. Jason made heaven his home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, B.C.

Jason was born on May 6, 1969 in Grandview, MB. to parents Mervin Catagas and Irene Nepinak. Jason spent his younger years in Tootinaowaziibeeng Reserve and later on in Dauphin, MB., where he attended school at Mackenzie Jr. High and the D.R.C.S.S. Jason graduated his grade 12. While in Dauphin, Jason got interested in break dancing and even break danced for Queen Elizabeth in 1986, which he was so proud of. He had numerous jobs, some working with children. He was always proud of his accomplishments. He was quite the jokester always making everyone “laugh”.

Jason had a lot of love for his mom and always called her “mommy’ never mom. He moved to Yorkton with his mommy, which was home for many years. Jason was always willing to help his mom in anyway, sending her to BINGO when he got paid. Jason used to call himself the “chef” making meals for his family. He loved to spend time with his nieces and nephews. Some nieces on his sister’s side gave him the nickname “Druncle”, you all know what that means. Jason left with the fair from Yorkton in 2003 and stayed in Vancouver till his passing. While in Vancouver he had numerous jobs, but somewhere along the way he made bad choices in life. He had tons of friends spending most of his life on the downton east side. Jason had an accident two years ago which affected his health, spending endless days in hospital. Jason had a favorite niece Lanneka who he was so protective over and spoiled rotten.

Jason is predeceased by his parents Mervin Catagas and Irene Nepinak, his sisters Jacki Nepinak, Lorelei Nepinak and Faren Ainsworth, his brothers Ronald Nepinak, twins Cameron and Curtis Nepinak, Kendall Nepinak and Terry Ledoux, grandparents on his dads side, Virginia “Bessie” Catagas and Charles Catags, on his moms side Albert and Marie Margaret Ironstand, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunties to numerous to mention.

Jason is survived by his son Sheldon Roland Lee Poitras, sisters Geraldine Nepinak of Dauphin, MB, Terrilene Nepinak of Regina, SK, JoAnn Demontigny of Yorkton, SK, Pamela Demontigny of Russell, MB, special nieces Shelly “Toots” Lynxleg of Surrey B.C and Lanneka Nepinak (Delroy) of Regina, SK., brothers Murray Nepinak of Dauphin, MB, Richard Nepinak of Dauphin, MB, Brent Mancheese of Edd and Flow, MB, his special friend and love of his life Nichole Angelucci of Richmond, B.C, his only aunty Liz Razor of Tootinaowaziibeeng, MB, and his uncle Mike Head of Winnipeg, MB. Jason will forever be missed by everyone who he made friends with and especially his siblings and extended family.

Jason is now with his “mommy” in heaven. What a beautiful reunion that must have been, my mamma finally has her baby home with her. You look after mama now baby brother.

Rest in sweet paradise
