Obituary of Mary Kuzek
KUZEK – The family of Mary Kuzek of Theodore, beloved wife of Bill Kuzek, sadly announce her peaceful passing on February 19, 2026, at the age of 98. Mary was born on December 25, 1927, to William and Wasylka Kitzan on the family farm in the Drobot area. The family then grew to include brothers Peter and Paul and sisters Katherine and Rose. While growing up on the farm she went to Chernowitz school until Grade 8, then became an integral part of the required farming activities. In 1947, a very nice man by the name of Bill Kuzek came into her life, so on June 12, 1948, they were married in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Drobot. They bought the Franko farm seven miles north of Theodore. Here they were blessed and raised their three boys, Raymond (married Karen Williams), Randy (married Iris Rivney), and Dennis (married Valerie Stadnyk). Church was an important part of life and Bill and Mary were members of Riverside Church and loved attending the services in the surrounding area. Mary so enjoyed planting and processing a large garden which she continued once they retired from farming in 1980 and moved into their new home built by their boys in Theodore. Mary loved planting flowers, picking nanking cherries, making rhubarb jam, and feeding the hummingbirds. Bill and Mary took on the job of cleaning the Credit Union to fill in some time. They also took a three-week vacation to travel to BC, visiting family and friends along the way. The destination was the community where Bill was able to show Mary where he took his army training. They were both honoured to be members of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mary remained in her home until she needed extra help, then moved to Lloydminster to stay with Randy. Failing health brought her back closer to home to eventually end up in the Theodore Health Center. Mary was predeceased by parents William and Wasylka Kitzan, husband Bill Kuzek, sons Raymond and Dennis Kuzek, daughter-in-law Iris Kuzek, great-granddaughter Mila Kuzek, sister Katherine Sebulski, brother Peter Kitzan, brothers-in-law: Paul Sebulski, George and Peter Kuzek, Bill Lukiniuk, Andrew Kautzman; sisters-in-law Faye Kitzan, Doris Lukiniuk, Sophie Kuzek, Elsie and Eva (nee Kuzek), Rose Kautzman; nephews Ron Lukiniuk, Floyd Dergousoff, and Allan Pozniak; and niece Gloria Dergousoff. Mary leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: son Randy, daughters-in-law Karen and Valerie, sister Rose Christian, brother Paul Kitzan; grandchildren: Lawrence (Anita) Kuzek, Kevin Kuzek, Chelsie (Jamie) Schneider, Rosemarie (Adam) Falk, Rebecca (Justin) Gagnon, Jonathan (Megan) Kuzek, Clorice (Curtis) Roussin, Jennifer (Jeff) Ahlers, Carla (Matthew) Milleker, Derek (Jenna) Kuzek, and Eric (Jillian) Kuzek; great grandchildren: Brett, Brenden, and Ashley Kuzek, Jayden and Asher Kuzek, Karysma, Trinity, and Jazzlynn Schneider, Annabelle, William, Victoria, and Eloise, Falk, Myla and Harris Gagnon, Henry Kuzek, Samantha and Sarah Roussin, Kayla and Drew Ahlers, Carter, Madisson, and Dawson Milleker, Levi, Chloe, and Maisy Kuzek, Juke, Cruz, and Lexus Kuzek; and great-great granddaughter Karolyne Schneider; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. May Mary be blessed in her new dwelling place with God. The Prayer Service was held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, February 26, 2026, from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church with The Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Faryna officiating.
