Mary grew up on the family homestead in the Dobrowody district near Rama. When the time came to leave home, she worked on neighbouring farms before finding work in Yorkton at the Boston Café. She met her first husband Ken in Yorkton, and they were married for 40 years before his passing. Mary was a very hard worker and at one time held two jobs while looking after her family. Over her working life she spent time at the Holiday Inn and the Husky Café, the Regional High School and then at the Imperial 400. Many of her co-workers spoke very highly of her and she kept many of the friendships throughout her life. After Ken passed away, she left the Imperial 400 and retired due to health reasons. Mary then supplemented her income by looking after boarders in her home. Later she met Robert Haney. They were married for several years before his passing. It was difficult for her to stay in her own home after that. She moved to Queen Elizabeth Court and was there for a number of years before she needed more care. Country Meadow Care Home became her next residence where she lived until her passing. She participated in activities there as her health allowed. She loved bingo and old-time music bands that came to play for the residents. Her favourite band was The Country Gentlemen. They played at her birthday in September. She loved being danced around the dance floor to a good old polka. Mary was and loved will be missed by the staff and residents. Her quiet nature would light up and you could see how much joy this gave her. Grandma had a special gift as she could remember everyone’s birthday. She would send all her grandchildren cards when she was able. She will be remembered by her Grands as Grandma jellybean, as she always had them on hand for a treat for them.
