Leonard Scraba

Obituary of Leonard Scraba

The family of Leonard Scraba of the Calder district, beloved husband of Linda Scraba, sadly announces his passing on March 5, 2026. Leonard was 81 years of age.

Leonard was born July 19, 1944 to Helen & John Scraba. He was raised on the family farm in the Calder District along with his four siblings; Ron and Marlene, his twin Lawrence and sister Beverly.  He attended Jerima School, as well as Calder High School.

His love for farming started young. Growing up he always worked on the family farm doing chores, tending to livestock, haying, stooking & splitting wood to name a few tasks he took pride in. He would often talk about picking stones and roots by hand and milking cows!

As a youngster, he enjoyed playing soft ball with his siblings and at school field meets, he was a great ball player and sure to win every time. Once he made his mind up to do something, it was sure to happen.

When Leonard left the family farm, he worked at the Coca Cola factory in Yorkton for a few years before moving to Calgary with his twin brother Lawrence to work at the sheet & metal factory. From there, Leonard was employed with Morsky Construction and spent numerous years operating a Cat and buggy on road construction.

On Nov. 24, 1973 Leonard married Linda and shortly there after they moved to their farm in the Wroxton area. They were blessed with two daughters, Brandee and Amanda. While growing crops and raising cattle, Leonard also worked off the farm for the RM of Calder and then the RM of Sliding Hills maintaining roads year round with a grader.

His love of the land and of raising cattle and horses was second to none. Often working 12 hour days off the farm to come home and do chores and feed the cattle all before he would stop for supper. The cows eat first!

Leonard had a very strong work ethic, and love for his family. In his spare time, you would find him teaching his girls how to catch a soft ball and how to ride a bike, how to ride and care for their horses, as well as halter breaking 4-H heifers. Taking pride in teaching them how to drive his tractors and truck.

He enjoyed playing softball, broom ball, ski-dooing with his brothers and ice fishing. He enjoyed winter. On the coldest days he could be found outside splitting wood with an axe or grinding grain for his cattle. No matter how hard or physically demanding the task at hand was, Leonard would get it done! Right up until the Good Lord called him home, his only want was to go home to his farm and to plan for next years crop and calves and to be with his family.

Leonard leaves to mourn, his wife Linda, daughters Brandee and Amanda (Vaughan), his brother Ron Scraba, sister Marlene (Irving) Carlson, twin brother Lawrence Scraba and sister Beverly (Garnet) Lacusta as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Leonard's Life was held on Friday, March 13  from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Shelly Morris officiating. Christal Ivanochko delivered the eulogy. The casket bearers were Amanda Scraba, Eugene Wonchulenko, Blaine Carlson, Curtis Lacusta, Ron Eftoda and Ron Kochanowski.
